A/N Even shorter super short one-shot. This sequel to The Abby was written for TheSingingPterodactyl who requested it. Originally I wasn't going to upload it, but SveaR, Sallad24601, and TheSingingPterodactyl all said I should, so this is for them.
Things improved in the strange new world quickly. The Abby didn't take Rex back to the place with all the nosy pokey creatures. Instead she took him to a nicer box with plants and things and other lizards. She paid him loads of attention and fed him the lovely fruits several times of day.
She also constantly made the happy tunes play, the ones that made him want to bop around in glee. Usually she bopped around with him.
He learned early on from watching her that she could shed her skin very easily. At least once a day she removed her colourful skin and immediately new skin of a different colour grew back. It amused Rex greatly to try and guess what colour she would be next.
Rex also noticed that, while the Abby clearly loved him very much, she was a wee bit embarrassed by him. Each time someone came to the door, she put him in a clear box and covered him up with a cloth. She never did that with the other lizards and he wondered what she thought was wrong with him.
Normally he sat quietly for her, not wanting to embarrass her further, but it was getting a bit ridiculous, he thought, so one day he called out to her and almost instantly a new face peeked into his box. The new creature that stared at him had laughing eyes and Rex liked him instantly. The Abby called him the Connor.
The Abby seemed to know that the Connor was safe, because she stopped trying to hide Rex from him and the Connor started to come visiting far more often than anyone else did. Rex liked the Connor and the Connor liked Rex. Eventually it seemed that the Connor never left and that he lived in Abby's big box too. The Connor spent a lot of time sitting on the sofa chatting with Rex and Rex began to understand some of the strange sounds that the Abby and the Connor used to communicate with. He didn't understand all of it, but enough to know when they were leaving for a little bit or when dinner time was or when they wanted him to come closer or leave them alone.
He also learned enough to know that the Abby got mad at the Connor a lot. She also was embarrassed by the Connor like she was of Rex and Rex couldn't really understand why that was, because the Connor adored the Abby. He loved the Abby as much as the Abby loved Rex. And besides, the Connor was a lot of fun and very attentive. He always gave Rex extra treats and once he even left the window open so that Rex could come with the Connor on a really fun outing where they played a game of chase with a larger flying dinosaur and then they played hide and seek in a forest.
Yes, the Abby was motherly and protective to Rex, but the Connor was super fun and a great friend and Rex could only hope that one day the Abby would see it too.
