Honey made sure his footsteps were silent as he crept down the hallway to Mori's room. Honey felt lonely, and wanted to snuggle with his protector.
He knew all well Mori would never allow it. He always told Honey he was "his protector." And that, "Protectors can not be emotionally attached to the protected."
Honey hated thinking of it like that. He had always thought Mori was his best friend. (Maybe more?) The fact that Mori never thought of him as a friend, and more like a job scared Honey to no end.
"This will prove he cares..."
Honey crept silently into Mori's room, the door creaking horridly as he walked in, and shut the door behind himself. Through the black darkness, Honey could see a lump on the bed, which he figured was Mori.
"Takashi?" Honey cried in his best young child voice.
The lump immediately shaped into a torso. "Mitsukuni?" Mori opened his eyes, "Mitsukuni what's wrong..? "
His eyes now adjusted to the light, Honey looked at his protector. "Takashi, I had a bad dream..." Honey acted, wiping away at his eyes.
"Ah." Mori groaned, getting up from his bed to go over to Honey. "You should get back to bed."
"B-but!" Honey protested, before being trusted up onto Mori's shoulders.
"No, you need your sleep."
"Can't I just stay with you?"
Mori stopped, dropping Honey down.
"What do you mean...?"
"I mean, what if I stayed with you?" Honey shot Mori his best puppy eyes.
"You know I can't do that..."
"But why!? Why can't I stay with you!?" Honey pouted, crossing his arms. "It's not like we'll be sleeping together..."
In that moment Mori turned 5 shades of red. "C'mon. Lets go." He grabbed Honey's wrist, practically dragging the small pint down the long hallway.
"No!" Honey resisted, flinging himself away from Mori.
"Mitsukuni, please, stop being a child." Honey shot him a look. "Alright. What's wrong."
"No. Never mind, I'll go to bed." Honey huffed in an attitude, turning his back to Mori.
Mori stretched a hand out, placing it atop Honey's head, turning him back around. Honey made sure he avoided eye contact so that Mori wouldn't notice the tears of rejection forming behind his carmel pupils. His small arms crossed in front of him in a defensive pose.
Mori crouched on the ground, attempting to get eye level to the small boy.
"What's going on."
This was the most Honey could ever remember Mori speaking in one night.
"Nothing." He mumbled.
"No, not nothing, what's wrong."
Honey's eyes flickered to Mori's face, then back to the floor.
But that one second was enough time for Mori to see the wet glisten of Honey's eyes and cheeks.
Mori felt his heart clench at the sight. 'I've made him cry... I've failed him...'
In natural instinct, Mori swept honey up on his shoulders within mere seconds.
"W-what are you-?" Honey half asked, surprised at the sudden movement.
"You had a bad dream right? Maybe you would sleep better if I were around tonight.." Mori started to walk back to his room.
"Really!?" Honey didn't try to hide his excitement, "I thought you couldn't, because you can't be, 'emotionally attached to the protected.'"
"Maybe old rules can change."
