Lloyd's phone beeped. Someone was IM-ing him. Kai. He answered it.
FireNinja1: just found out i'm sick
LloydGN: i'm sorry. do u want me to bring u medicine?
FireNinja1: meds won't help
FireNinja1: i'm really sick, lloyd
FireNinja1: like… deadly sick
LloydGN: oh god
LloydGN: you're dying?!
FireNinja1: yeah
LloydGN: there's nothing i can do to help?
FireNinja1: there is one thing
FireNinja1: come see me
LloydGN: how will that help?
FireNinja1: i'll still die
FireNinja1: but i want you by my side until the end
Lloyd felt tears in his eyes as he typed his reply.
LloydGN: i'm coming over
LloydGN: don't die yet
FireNinja1: i won't
FireNinja1: i won't die until sometime tomorrow
LloydGN: then i'm spending the night with u
FireNinja1: i'd like that
FireNinja1: i'll set up a bed on the floor for you
LloydGN: no
LloydGN: let me sleep in your bed with you
FireNinja1: last cuddles?
LloydGN: last cuddles.
Lloyd packed only a few things: pajamas, extra clothes. Then he set off for Kai's place. He knocked on the door. Kai opened it and smiled. "Lloyd!"
"Hey, Kai." Lloyd said. "How're you feeling?"
"A little shaky, and hot. Pretty much, like shit." He said. "But, shh, don't think about it right now."
Lloyd forced a smile. "You wanna play video games?"
The two of them played video games until Kai passed out on the floor. Lloyd smiled and let himself pass out, too. When Lloyd woke up, he rubbed his sore neck, stretched, and mumbled "G'mornin, Kai."
There was no response. He turned and shook Kai. Still he didn't wake up. That's when it hit Lloyd. Kai wasn't asleep. He was dead.
"Kai?" He was panicking now. "C-come on, wake up. Please…? You gotta wake up. Please." He mumbled.
He collapsed, burying his face in Kai's shirt and crying until his eyes hurt and his throat was sore from coughing and yelling. "Kai…" He sobbed. "Please, wake up. You can't be dead. Please."
He knew it was useless. Kai was gone. But still, he cried and begged for him to come back.
If only he could.
