Strife in Marriages
There once was a handsome prince named L. He was the most dashing and knowledgeable in the land. His father, the King, feared for his future though. He worried that his son's intelligence would be wasted. So, he went to the temple of the God of Light, Raito. He prayed and pleaded with the god for him to give his son a promising future. Intrigued, Raito went at once to see him for himself and fell in love immediately. They were married at once and Raito took L to live in his castle in the heavens.
Unfortunately, L quickly grew bored with his new simple lifestyle. Finally, he couldn't take it any more. He went to Raito and told him of his unhappiness. Although Raito was saddened by L's discontent, he told him there was nothing that could be done and sent him away. That night, while Raito was slumbering, L disappeared into the black of the night. When Ratio woke, he was outraged. He searched for him for weeks, but could not recover his missing bride. Furious and deeply wounded, he visited his friend Misa, goddess of love and marriage. He told her of his troubles and asked that in return for his suffering, that any who fell in love from that day forth would experience as much strife in their relationships as he had been forced to endure. She, of course, agreed to his wish and cast her spell over the rest of humanity. Still wounded, but somewhat consoled, Raito returned to his castle in the heavens to watch as the rest of the world suffered the same.
