I own nothing! Rainbow Quartz is not the same as in We Need To Talk because this is her first time existing.
Making of a Rainbow
The newest member of the Crystal Gems was... intriguing, to say the least. Rose had taken quite an interest in the fusion, and was now leading her to the temple. Pearl lagged behind, lost in her own thoughts and ideas the new fusion presented. Two different gems fused, a soldier and an aristocrat, a ruby and a sapphire. If she hadn't seen it herself, Pearl didn't think she would have believed it to be possible.
The dual colored form of the 'Garnet,' as she called herself, did look rather lovely-even with an asymmetrical pallet and ensemble. She looks like a messy patch-work, Pearl had first thought when they fused at the sky arena.
What does this mean for the rest of us? Can all gems fuse with others? Could-No! I'm not even a gem, I'm a pearl. There's no way I could fuse...right? But who could say for sure, after the day's events? Perhaps fusion was more complex than previously thought. But how can I be sure? Could I-What if I tried...with Rose?
She blushed. More questions popping into her head as she attempted to forget what she just considered. Would the great and kind Rose Quartz be understanding enough to try? With a Pearl? But I'm more than just a Pearl, she thought to herself. I've seen battle. I've gone against the Diamonds. I've gone against my superiors. I am not just a Pearl.
"Rose," she said before she knew what she was doing or could stop herself, "can I speak with you?"
"Of course, Pearl. I'll be back in a minute, Garnet. Please get comfortable and acquainted with the Temple."
"Thank you, Rose," Garnet said. As the pair walked off, Garnet started to smile. A vision had come to the front of her mind, showing her what was about to unfold.
"What do you wish to talk about, Pearl?"
"Well... This fusion brings many questions."
"Isn't it great?" Rose said excitedly. "They've made something entirely knew and beautiful."
"They do seem to work well as one being. Which is why I was wondering-"
"I wonder what it must feel like to be them," Rose's voice drowned out Pearl's.
"Well, what if you and I-"
"If we tried?" Rose finished. Pearl nodded. "Come on then! Let's give it a go!" Rose was grinning from ear to ear as she grabbed Pearl's wrist, pulling her to the clearing just a short distance away.
"Alright so, what did they do again? There was a spin and they-" Rose's voice was quickly blocked out by Pearl's new fears. What if I can't do it? Rose would be so disappointed. But the smile on Rose's face brought forth a sense determination. I will do it! I will do it for Rose Quartz!
Her newfound bravery in hand, Pearl strutted over to Rose with more confidence than ever. She took Rose's hands and the pair began to spin and twirl, coming closer and closer together. Their bodies reverted to light before merging together.
As her eyes opened, Rainbow Quartz knew she-er, Rose and Pearl- had succeeded. She stretched out her four arms in front of her, ran her hands through her big, pink, blond-tipped head of hair, straightened her knee-length ruffle skirt, and started walking with her greatly lengthened stride. She was filled with amazement and astonishment; the bond of being fused brought great joy and the surprise of the new sensation left her in awe.
"Rainbow Quartz," she said, almost instinctually. "Garnet!" she took off running, stumbling a bit on the way, "You'll never guess what just happened."
But Garnet knew, and was happy that others could experience what she had, even if it was just for a short time.
