Fierce, swift breezes of air flew past Syuusuke Fuji's clear face as he shifted his legs and tilted his head at the rising sun. Today was an important day. Today was the day Tezuka would get married.
A tear ran down Fuji's pale cheek and met with his tongue. He had promised himself he wouldn't cry, but keeping that promise was so much harder than he had expected.
He had known that Tezuka would not accept his feelings, would deny them, would tell him...
"Boys don't love boys. That's just... wrong."
Tezuka's cold, emotionless features, the bitter, stinging words...
They were unreal to Fuji, a dream. He couldn't touch them, they were untangible.
"Fuji..."
A particular bouncy redhead sat down cross-legged next to Fuji and put his hands in his lap in a childish manner. The two best friends always came out together to the beach like this, whenever they had that compulsion to just... be with each other.
"I'm so sorry, Fuji... I know..."
Fuji's crystal eyes opened wide, and he stared at Eiji.
"Fuji... Have you met Tezuka's fiancee?"
Fuji was quiet. No, hadn't, because if he had, he would have ripped her to pieces.
Eiji placed his head on Fuji's shoulder, who looked only mildly surprised.
And, to Fuji's surprise, Eiji laughed, very, very hard.
"Fuji... Forget Tezuka."
Fuji's lips parted into a slight "o", and his eyes opened wider.
"Does gender differenciate love? Is it immoral for a boy to love a boy? Can you help it?"
Fuji glanced at the expression on Eiji's face. Eiji, saying those things... Who knew he could be so smart?
Blue eyes met with blue, and the two best friends began to cry, slowly, one tear at a time.
"Eiji..."
"Fujiko..."
"I-"
"Do you-"
Eiji couldn't stand it any further. He leaped up onto Fuji's lap and kissed him, hard.
Inside Fuji's mind, a battle raged.
'Eiji... Tezuka... I... don't... no, I do know."
Fuji kissed Eiji back.
Several miles away, Tezuka pronounced his marriage to his fiancee at the exact same time.
