He'd Waited Too Long

He'd known that she was special, since he'd first laid eyes on her. He would watch her and her sister, waiting for the perfect time to say hello.

He'd watched as her fiery red tresses, flew out behind her as she jumped off of the swing.

He'd learnt from their very first meeting, that she was definitely not one to be messed with, no matter how sweet she looked, she had a temper.

He'd listened as she would talk to him, those days when she would ask in wonder about Hogwarts.

He'd be complete with her beside him.

He'd wait for the day when she would see him as more than just a friend.

He'd wanted to tell her that he loved her as soon as he knew he did himself, but he didn't.

He'd discovered, how after he called her a Mudblood, he became illusive to her.

He'd apologised in desperation, but she was strong, and didn't give in to his pleas for forgiveness.

He'd changed after she wouldn't accept his apology; he didn't care about anything anymore.

He'd betrayed her, by becoming a Death Eater, or he felt like he had.

He'd send her presents on her birthday, but never heard a word back.

He'd felt like tearing himself apart when she married James.

He'd waited too long to tell her, and now she was dead, gone.

He'd stepped past her husband, not giving him, or Harry another thought once he saw her.

He'd held her lifeless body, crying into her auburn hair.

He'd touched her cold pale hand, promising that nothing could hurt her anymore.

He'd vowed to protect her son come what may, and he did.

He'd whisper her name, and hope that one day, she'd whisper back.

And now he was dead too, but even now, he would always be, just a friend.
