Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter

A/N: It just came to me whilst I was reading GOF in anticipation of DH Part 2!

A Grunt and A Yes

Hermione was exhausted and rubbed her eyes. She had retired to the library owing to the amount of noise in the common room. It wasn't holidays yet but everyone was behaving like it was. She looked down at her book once more, took her quill and dipped it in some ink and began to take notes on the Draught of Peace. O.W.L's were still a long way away but Hermione didn't believe you could learn too much ahead of time.

"May I haff this seat?" came a gruff voice,

Hermione looked up, astonished to see Viktor Krum looking down at her and indicating to the chair opposite her. Blushing deeply, she nodded. As he did so, making a loud scrapping noise as the chair moved across the floor, she looked around and saw his fan club a few tables behind them; all with vicious looks on their faces. Hermione turned back to Krum who was watching her intently. Not knowing if she should say something, Hermione went back to her book. The silence lengthened and she was beginning to feel uncomfortable with the constant stare. Before she had fully decided on what to do next Krum spoke, "You come to the library a lot." It wasn't a question, nor did it sound like a statement. It was more of a realisation on his part that he chose to voice, so, unsure of whether it required and answer or not, Hermione just smile. Krum smiled back, this made his cantankerous expression soften and made him look a lot gentler.

"You are very pretty." This was definitely a statement.

"Thank you." Said Hermione, blushing profusely

"I come in here hoping to talk vith you but you leave."

"Yes, well, your fan club is very annoying." Hermione snapped, just the thought of them irritated her.

"I am sorry." Krum said softly.

This made Hermione feel extremely bad for snapping at him, it wasn't his fault and it was rude of her to snap at him when she didn't know him, "No, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have snapped."

"It is OK." They are annoying." He replied hesitantly.

Hermione giggled at this.

"I like your laugh." He said bluntly.

Embarrassed, Hermione giggled again. This time Krum laughed too, it was the first time Hermione had heard him laugh and it was a good hearty laugh, something that caused butterflies in her stomach.

"Viktor!" someone said loudly, making Hermione and Viktor jump, turning they saw Karkaroff standing but the door and beckoning Krum out of the library.

"One minute." Krum grunted before turning back to Hermione, "Vill you go to the ball vith me?"

Shocked beyond comprehension, Hermione sat there in silence, Viktor Krum was asking her to the Yule Ball? Her, Hermione Granger, of all girls, he was asking her! After a minute of stunned silence Hermione became aware that she hadn't answered and that Krum was looking at her beseechingly. She cleared her throat and as she felt a deep blush gracing her face again she answered in a slightly higher than normal voice, "Yes! I'd love to!"

Viktor's face broke into a huge grin which reached his eyes and lit up his face. He got up from his seat, hesitantly leant down and kissed Hermione softly on the lips and left the library with his headmaster.

Hermione sat there for ages, fingers on her lips, trying to grasp what had just happened. She didn't even look up when Viktor's fan club walked past, hissing loudly at her.

She couldn't believe it; she was going to the Yule Ball with Viktor Krum! And though she'd never admit it to Harry, she thought Viktor was gorgeous.
