PROLOGUE

How a normal school day can change. Tell that to Jennifer. She and her best friend Emily had walked into their classroom, chatting away about dragonboat and track things… like usual. Class didn't even start yet, so they had all the time in the world. Their teacher just casually strolled in, said hello to his class, sat down in his chair, and started grading tests. Then a loud alarm rang throughout the school. Jennifer and Emily were relatively surprised. Nothing really important required this sort of alarm. Then the voice of the school principal rang through the PA system: "This is a code red situation. Repeat. Code Red. Everybody get away from the windows and doors as soon as possible." The teacher then got up from grading the tests, and was about to walk to the door when it was suddenly burst down and a body was seen flying into the classroom behind the door.
A giant brute… literally… ran into the classroom, swung its giant hammer, and smashed 4 tables to bits in the blink of an eye. The person seen flying to the end of the room had gotten up, unsheathed a sword that was glowing a deathly red colour, and was prepared to fight the thing. "No way he's going to survive… wait. I've seen him before," Jennifer whispered silently to Emily. The brute didn't pay attention to the two; it was too distracted by the guy with the sword. Jennifer gasped when the brute got the better of the person and embedded its giant gravity hammer into the guy's chest. "JERRY NOOOOOO!" she cried in horror. That got the brute's attention, but before it could do anything, Jerry said, "Oi, bastard. Knock knock." He then yanked the hammer out of his chest and swang it onto the brute's head, slicing it in two and therefore killing it. He then collapsed from loss of blood, and Jennifer was the only one to react and attempt to tend to him.
A bunch of UNSC (United Nations Space Command) personnel entered the room to see the dead brute and a distraught Jennifer still bent over Jerry's unconscious body. They took him and carried him to a dropship and then left, much to her dismay. Emily then walks up to her and asks, "So, uh, what's going to happen now? This place is a shitshow now."
"I don't know. All I want to know is if he will be ok," Jennifer replies, with a few tears in her eyes.
"Don't worry about him. He's strong as all hell. He can tank that."
"But… but what if he can't?"
"He will. I've known him enough."
Though Jennifer is still skeptical, she follows her friend off campus, and they both head home.
