Rin sat in the garden.

No, she moped.

Brooded.

It was sunny today. She didn't want it to be sunny. She wanted everyone to be as sad and depressed as she was, including the weather.

Sesshoumaru had finally taken a mate, and it wasn't her.

She was old enough to take a husband. She was sixteen!

But she never would. No one would ever compare to him.

What hurt her the most was she gave herself to him, on the day of her sixteenth birthday. She hoped that he would make her his. After he told her she would always hold a place in his heart, he went out and found this other demon woman.

When Rin found out, she had Jaken take her to find Kagome; when she found the group she cried on Kagome's shoulder for hours.

Jaken had finally talked her into returning home, but she wasn't very happy about it.

For the past month she had been trying her best to be civil to the woman, but found it hard. How could she be civil to a woman who took away the man she loved with all of her being?

A couple of times she let the woman braid her hair, in an attempt to get to know her, but she still couldn't bring herself to like her.

She was tall, she was beautiful, she was demon.

Everything Rin was not.

Her dark hair would never compare to the other woman's golden hair. She was almost six inches shorter too.

It hurt knowing she would always be second best.

Rin rubbed at the forming tears in her eyes.

She would stay at his side until the day she died, even if she had to be miserable.

------------

They watched her from the house. Sesshoumaru had been as miserable as the girl he loved.

"Go to her," the new lady of the western lands told him.

"No. This union may only be business, but I won't do that to you," he replied calmly.

Koujo sighed. He had been miserable, and she knew it. But he was so darn noble he wouldn't go to the girl.

He had taken the girl right before she got there, she knew it. She smelled him all over her.

She sighed. She wished he would go to her. There was a man back in her father's lands she was in love with, but her father had forbid it. He was of a lower station than she.

For now, they would all live in misery, wishing they were with someone else.

Another one for iyficcontest that I decided against. I am almost wishing I would have posted this one instead of The Love Of A Brother. I would have probably gotten farther with it, but it is too late now.
