Never had he seen such a fueled soul. The girl showed promise, yet none in her damned clan recognized it. No one in the entire village recognized it. That was no surprise though; she was a natural wall flower despite the fact that she had attempted to break away more than once. In the end, she'd surrendered, and remained bogged down, bound to the ways of her clan.
As Uchiha Itachi watched Hyuuga Hinata, he wondered what made her remain where she was. She was not happy in the least, and he felt that she did not believe in the little confidence she had. At the Chuunin exams, he'd watched as she fought her cousin…what was his name? I should know, he thought, I was sent for him, after all. But still…
Hinata moved gracefully, testing the limits of her chakra control with the gentle fist technique. She was tired, exhausted even. It was clear she was in agony. No, not just physically, but mentally as well. Two and a half years had done nothing to improve her worth in the eyes of her father. Her cousin always seemed to be two steps ahead of her. Even her sister, five years to her junior, showed as much progress as Hinata did. In truth, Itachi pitied her. Power was not everything. That much he'd discovered after joining ANBU, and is next mental break left his entire clan face down in the dirt. She would do something she couldn't take back, all in the name of power.
The Hyuuga fell. She fell on her knees, punching the ground. "What does it matter what I do?" she said to herself. No, not said. Yelled. He had never heard her yell, and he was sure no one else had either. She pulled out a kunai, the metal gleaming in the light. Before she could bring it down on her stomach, Itachi was there.
"Don't take the easy way out." he said, holding her wrist. She stared up at him, pastel eyes wide.
"You…you don't know what you're talking about." Weak at first, powering up, effectively delivering an edge that she'd never had. An edge that surprised even the Uchiha.
"I do. I've been watching you, Hinata." he said, letting her go. "I've seen what you've been through. I've been through it. And I can get you out."
"What?"
"Come with me." At this, Hinata shook her head. "Why are you afraid? You were ready to commit suicide." He extended his hand to her, a tense moment passing where both remained frozen. Leaves blew by as she reached out and took his hand, both of them vanishing in a whirlwind of leaves. She was finally free.
