THE LEGACY OF BAD NED Power Man & Iron Fist #112 behind the scenes and refocused.

INTRODUCTION

This is my second "behind the scenes expansion pack" story, fleshing out the events of a very short-lived 1980s Marvel character that as a teen I wanted to write a series around. Christopher Priest came up with a fairly clever spin on "Billy Batson / Captain Marvel" and I always thought there was potential there for a breakout character. To borrow a summary from the Marvel Chronology Project, "Captain Hero is actually a 12 year old boy, (Bobby Wright) . We're told that he was abandoned by his teenage mother when he was less than six months old. Once, while he was running away from a state orphanage, he picked up a meteorite and was infected with an unknown alien spore that has altered his atomic structure forever. It gave him complete control of his molecular structure. The Captain Hero persona is inspired by comic books. His goal was to join Heroes For Hire so that he could convince them to look for his real mother. At the end of the issue, as he's being shipped off to Project Pegasus, we also learn that the alien spore is rapidly killing him." Marvel Comics always had a pseudo-science style, so this is the Marvel version of "a wizard did it.")

His schtick was that he was a 12 year old with powers that gave him "total control over his atomic structure" but because he couldn't control his powers they were slowly killing him in a way similar to Childhood Leukemia." What a great metaphor for being a tween, if you don't learn self control somehow it will KILL YOU. Didn't being 12 or 13 feel THAT IMPORTANT at the time?)

So I went back in time to POWER MAN & IRON FIST #111 and rewrote it more from the point of view of the kid-with-superpowers. I added in a VERY old idea I have had for bringing back one of the few Golden Age Marvel/Timely heroes that no one has used since 1945, a teen genius inventor and amateur detective that was actually pretty good. Marvel Mystery Comics #10-55, almost every single issue. He had more appearances than a LOT of other Golden Age heroes that got revived and reinvented, so I always wanted to revamp him. So I did, and partnered him up with Bobby Wright / Captain Hero.

So go back and read my WHO IS CAPTAIN HERO for my rewriting and revamping of POWER MAN & IRON FIST #111. This will be my revamping of #112, adding prequel and sequal material to fill in and lead up to his NEXT canon appearance in #113.

Review/plot: From Marvel Chronology Project;
"Issue #111 ended right after Luke & Danny learned that Bobby Wright/Captain Hero was dying. It seemed like he was going to be shipped off to Project Pegasus. But in this issue it turns out that Luke & Danny kept him around for "four days while Project Pegasus gets its act together". Now it's time for him to actually go, and Danny promises to visit him while he's there. Luke, on the other hand, has been fighting with Bobby the whole time and he's happy to see him go."

SO … What happened the two days before that?
