Abby was having a rest when the phone rang. She picked up the phone immediately, and checked the caller ID. It was Gibbs. She answered.
"Hello?"
She received no answer
"Hello?"
Finally she heard Gibb's voice through the speaker
"I've got bad news."
"How bad? Bad as in Ari got away...?"
At first she thought she heard Gibbs choke slightly, but she must have been hearing things. Gibbs never cried.
"It's Kate"
Abby suddenly felt giddy, a fumbled for her computer chair, where she flopped down, holding the table for support.
"What's wrong? Has Ari kidnapped her again? Gibbs?"
"We lost her Abs. We lost her."
"What do you mean?" Somehow nothing was making sense.
"She's dead Abby. That slime killed her."
"Gibbs…"
She heard nothing, she saw nothing. The dim glow of the computer that she spent many hours basked in, seemed to make everything seem distorted.
"Gibbs…what happen? Please let this be a joke."
"Ari shot her in the head," She heard him choke again, "with a sniper"
"Is there anything we can do?"
"Abby, she's dead."
Abby dropped the phone. It smashed onto the floor. Gingerly she picked it up.
"Gibbs?"
No answer. She inspected the phone, the front was cracked, but that wasn't all, there must have been some damage inside, for a broken case wouldn't been able to do that much damage.
She stood up, and made her way to the phone on the other side of the lab. When she reached the phone, it finally hit her.
Kate's gone. Forever.
She felt her hear beating fast, she started shaking. She lent against the wall and let her body fall as a few stray tears fell down her face.
