Midnight Chat
Late at night, Captain Kathryn Janeway of the Federation Starship Voyager, found herself awake. And she wanted to go to sleep. Very badly. But sadly, there was something on her mind. She sat up in bed and wrapped her slender arms around her knees.
She needed someone to talk to. Someone who she could trust, and wouldn't be mad at her for waking them up at...what time was it? She looked over at the clock. Midnight. Yes, wouldn't be mad at her for waking them up at midnight.
"Janeway to Chakotay. Sorry for waking you up so late. Er, early." She whispered.
She waited for a few seconds, then a groggy voice responded.
"Kathryn, why are you up so early? Or early? Whatever?" He whispered back.
"I need someone to talk to," she paused. "Do you think you could come for a bit?" The Captain bit her lip with worry, and shut her eyes tightly.
"Yeah, sure. I'll be right there. Chakotay out."
She laughed at the formality. A few minutes later, her door alarm went off.
"Come in."
The door whooshed open in the dead silence. Chakotay walked in looking tired. The Captain took one look at Chakotay and her eyes softened.
"Oh Chakotay. I'm so sorry. I'll try not to be too long."
He waved her off. "It's alright. I willingly came, didn't I?" He smiled.
She patted the bedding next to her. Chakotay sat down. They sat in comfortable silence for a few minutes.
"So what did you need to talk about?" He turned his head and looked at her.
"Everything, Chakotay. Everything. Are we really going to spenc the rest of our lives on Voyager? Will we ever get to send messages to our loved ones?" She sighed and rested her head on his shoulder.
"I'd love to answer those questions with definate answers, but sadly I can't. The best I can tell you is that we can only hope." He put an arm around her shoulders.
"Thank you, Chakotay," she yawned. "I'm so tired." She closed her eyes, and she was instantly asleep.
Chakotay smiled and gently lay her back down onto the bed. He proceeded to cover her and make sure she looked comfortable. Just before he stepped out of the room, there was a soft whisper.
"Goodnight, Commander Chakotay."
He smiled and left the room.
Was it good? Bad? Constructive critisicsm welcome:)
