A moment of grief

Hello! I haven't written anything for quite a while but inspiration visited me again and I did this!

Same old story, Hotch losing Haley. Why? Well, I love tragic love stories and until I see something about this in the show I don't think I'll be able to get over it.

And also, with everything that happened in season 6, with Emily's "death", the team grieving and all that, I'm sad for Hotch, because for the team it will all be over, Prentiss will come back and despite any feeling of hurt or anger or whatever, they actually going to be alright, because at the end they didn't lose her. But Hotch did lose Haley (I believe there was still love between them) and she will never come back, and it's sad he won't have a happy ending like the rest, so I wanted to write about the grieving he will still have.

But enough of my rambling, enjoy and let me know what you think!

Disclaimer: I own nothing.

Note: I was writing a multi-chapter story that couldn't be finished because too many things got in the way and when I finally got the time I lost the line. Anyway, I want to thank ROSSELLA1 for helping me out with what I had. It was really, really great help. Thanks!

Many people said that when you lose someone you love it feels the world has stopped spinning.

Because the thought of the world still working without that person in it, seems so... wrong.

So unnatural.

Unfortunately, it is truth. The world keeps going. And the hardest part is to realize you can't stand still.

You have to catch up with it.

Hotch has been trying to do so ever since Haley died. He tries to be at the same speed as the rest, so he can keep his promise and give Jack the best of life.

Most of the time he is able to achieve it. It even becomes easier and normal as each day passes. And the surroundings are so fast and loud that, sometimes, he almost forgets that she's gone.

Almost.

There's a murmur in the back of his mind.

A slight sting in his heart.

A ghost of a missing piece of himself.

But it's all so faint that it can be overlook.

There are occasions, however, when the world stops again. It happens suddenly and unexpectedly. Caused by the simplest things, like the smell of lavender that comes from somewhere, that reminds him at the smell of her hair.

And when everything stops moving.

When everything is silence.

The murmur on his minds gets louder and louder until echoing the sound of the gun shots that took her life.

The sting in his heart becomes a sharp stab in his chest.

And the ghost of the missing piece starts bleeding again.

The world fades away for him to feel his grief.

It's on those moments, when he's immersed in his pain, that Hotch remembers JJ's words.

He wonders when will it happen.

When will stop hurting.

When he'll be able to smile at the memory of his Haley.

When he'll be happy.

But whenever that day comes, he must carry on.

So he takes a deep breath… and starts again.
