A.N.: For those who have read my story "Heat part 1" I understand you would probibly like to strangle me for not putting up part 2, but I am sporting a case of writers block for that story. I'll try to post it some time next month.
I do not own The Mentalist.
-Rick: Don't you sometimes wonder if it's worth all this? I mean what you're fighting for.
-Victor Laszlo: You might as well question why we breath. If we stop breathing, we'll die. If we stop fighting our enemies, the world will die.- (1942) Casablanca.
After everything, all the promises, all the laughs, all the moments that we've had and gone through, it still wasn't enough.
"Don't you leave me! Keep your eyes open! DAMN IT STAY WITH ME!"
Blood was soaking the ground, the deep red pool getting bigger and bigger. "Just stay with me, please stay with me" Lisbon sobbed out as she kept pressure on the bullet wound.
"Soo…tired" Jane said brokenly.
"I know, I know, but I need you to stay awake, I need you to keep fighting" tears streaked down her face as she gritted her teeth to keep them from chattering from the freezing wind.
Rain started to poor down in sheets on the two of them. 'Damn it' she thought as she lookied around for the ambulence.
She looked down when she heard Jane chucke breathlessly. "How fitting…for it to be rainning" he said bitterly as tears streaked down his face, "Hey, don't you get like that" Lisbon scolded, "You see this?" she said as she held up their linked hands, their fingers intertwind with each others. "You just keep holding on alright? You keep those eyes open, and you keep fighting hear me?" she said determindly.
"why…why do we…keep dong this? Why do we…keep fighting?" Jane mussed out load as sirens started blaring in the distence.
"Because…because we all need to…we all need to fight for everything, we all need to fight to survive…we need to fight for those who can't, for those who are powerless…we…we need to fight agenst all the darkness and all the monsters that threaten's to consume all of us…we need to fight for a brighter future…for a brighter tomorrow…n-not…not just for our selves b-but for our friends and loved ones a-and for each other…if we don't…if we don't we would all be consumed by darkness and by sadness and grief" she said as she tightend her hold on his hand.
They sat silently as the sirens got loader and loader.
"Do you…get tired of…" he didn't finish the question but she knew what he was asking.
"Yes…sometimes I do, but I always find a resion to keep fighting" she answered honestly as new tears started forming.
"Then I'll... keep fight with you" Jane smiled.
Releasing a breathless laugh, she smiled a watery smile then pulled away as the E.M.T took over putting pressure on the wound.
After Jane was loaded in, Lisbon climed in after him and they road off to the hospital.
