Chasing Away Shadows

"So you're just gonna sit there and bake?"
"Yes."
"Why?"
"Because it's been too damn long since I last saw the sun."
"Oh." A heavy, guilt-riddled sigh followed the word, punctuated by several thick moments of silence. "You know I'm sorry, right? For not getting to you sooner."
"'s not your fault."
"Sure it is. I-I should've…figured things out a lot quicker."
"And I shouldn't have walked into a trap in the first place. Rookie mistake."
The chair creaked as its occupant leaned back and closed his eyes.
"Wanna beer?"
"Yeah—yeah, a beer would taste good right about now."
