A conversation between partners by believesvueo

Jane walked over to the bar where her partner Detective Barry Frost is sitting. She followed his gaze and he was looking at a couple sitting in the booth.

"So are you gonna sit here all night and stare at her? Or are you going to do something about it?"

"Well, I could ask you the same thing, partner."

"Let's not go there, Frost."

"Why the hell not, Jane?"

"Because… So do you think she has any idea?"

"About you? Or about me?"

"So when did it happen for you?"

"Are you asking me when did I start falling for Maura?"

"So, it's Maura now, huh?"

"Do you want to know or not?"

"Do tell me, partner."

"Well, after you know, the whole Marino thing, while you were in the hospital, we spent a lot of time together. When you were recovering, I had to work with her more. I have always found her extremely beautiful but even more so, when I talked to her. She's so smart and she knows so much but she never makes you feel any less. She's like…"

"Perfect."

"You said it Jane, not me."

"Well, what would you have said?"

"The total package."

"No, difference Frost."

"So you think she's perfect, huh?" Frost said smiling.

"I told you, Frost let's not go there."

"Jane, I never thought that you're…"

"I'm not. I never…"

"So this is the first?"

"Yeah. It scares the crap out of me. It's confusing you know. I don't feel this way with you know…"

"She's different. There's something about her. I don't think she even knows the affect she has on people. You think she's oblivious to our feelings for her?"

"I don't know Frost. But I, for sure, I would never tell her."

"Why, not?"

"Because Maura is as straight as a board. But you my friend, I think you should tell her."

"Wouldn't this complicate things? I mean, we are partners and if I do get with her, wouldn't you want to shoot me out of jealousy?

"The only time I would shoot you is if you ever hurt her. I'd rather see you with her than any other man because I know you. You're a good man, Frost. I know you'll take good care of her."

"Thanks, partner. You going to help me out? You know her better than I do. And how can I compete with that man, she's going out with? I heard he's rich and he's very good looking."

"Maura's smart. Just be yourself. I've known Maura long enough to know that money is not an issue with her."

"Thanks, Jane. So are you sure about this?"

"I'm sure. When you love someone, all you want is for them to be happy. And I can't risk losing her. Losing what I have with her, our friendship."

Jane and Frost both watch as Maura's date leaves. Maura waves at them and they wave back. They both watch in awe as Maura walks toward them. They both let out a sigh, aware than this isn't going to be easy as they said. They both love her and want her. Maybe, letting someone else have her would be better. But at the end of it all, letting her go is clearly not an option.
