Meetings in Heaven

"Look … at … me …" he whispered.

The green eyes found the black, but after a second something in the depths of the dark pair seemed to vanish, leaving them fixed, blank and empty. The hand holding Harry thudded to the floor, and Snape moved no more. (DH, pg. 528)

The first thing he noticed was the silence; no noisy children, no terrible battle sounds, just ... silence. The second thing was the darkness, not too dark because of a soft light shining from where there should have been a moon, but he could se none. He was in a meadow, of that he was sure, but as to why he could not even fathom. 'Is this hell?' he thought to himself, for he was sure that was where he was going to end up.

A noise behind him took him out of his thoughts. Footsteps in the grass, and then a voice,

"Sevreus…." A voice that was all too familiar.

'Merlin help me,' he thought. It was her. One thing was for certain, he was not in hell. She would never have been sent to such a place.

"Look at me Severus,"she commanded. Who was he to not obey? The sight of her stole his breath, it had been so long! She was no different than she had been almost seventeen years before, no less beautiful; her long red hair flowing down her back and her bright green eyes looking up at him with exasperation. Wait, exasperation? Uh, oh, he was in trouble!

"Severus Tobias Snape! Why in Merlin's name didn't you tell me?"

"I … I …uh …" Severus Snape never stuttered, except of course when Lily Potter was exasperated.

"What exactly did you hope to accomplish, hmm? All you've succeeded in doing is making yourself miserable!" she exclaimed.

"When was I supposed to tell you," he snapped. "After you decided I was a death eater and wanted nothing to do with me, or perhaps on the night of your wedding?" He looked away. She sighed, defeated.

"I am sorry," he said quietly, looking her in the eye.

"Yes, so am I," she murmured. "And I do have to thank you." He raised an eyebrow, silently telling her to go on.

"You helped Harry, even though he looks just like James, thank you for that. And just now when you gave him your memories, I know that with the animosity between the two of you that could not have been an easy decision." She smiled tenderly up at him and squeezed his arm in comfort.

"No, it most certainly was not and easy decision," he huffed. "But it had to be done or that cursed boy would not have known what to do and the Dark Lord would be ruling Europe right now."

"That cursed boy is my son thank you and he is smart enough to figure some things out for himself, you know!" Lily glared at him in mock annoyance and then looked down at her watch and sighed.

"I'm sorry Severus, I can't stay; James is waiting for me."

"Yes, of course," he said stiffly. "Go back to that child you call a husband, I will be fine."

"Do not take that tone with me Severus," she warned. "I'm sorry I have to go now, but I will be back to visit again. Oh, come here." She wrapped him in a tight hug and placed her fingers on his cheek for a brief moment before turning to leave.

"Goodbye Lily," he said gravely.

"Not goodbye, silly," she chided. "See you soon." With that she was gone. A small smile graced the lips of Severus Snape, perhaps death wouldn't be such a bad thing after all, in fact it may just be enjoyable.
