It had actually started off perfectly. James Potter had been walking through the halls of Hogwarts on his way to the lake to meet Prongs, Moony, and Wormtail. He had just survived his first Divination class and was longing for fresh air when he, quite literally, bumped into Lily Evans. For once, Snivellus wasn't hanging around her. James grinned.
He expected Lily to glare back at him. She didn't react at all. Like ice. Obviously, he needed to fix that.
"Hey, Lils!" he called at her retreating back. "What's going on?"
"Bug off, James!" she called, without even turning. So he grabbed her and spun her around to face him and the momentum caused her to drop all of her books and fall into his arms. Somehow, in the process, James ended up with his lips against hers. He wasn't going to complain though, so he just pulled her closer and tried to deepen the kiss only to have her pull back and slap him.
Despite the reddening mark on his cheek, James was grinning in delight. Lily was glaring.
"Keep your hands off of me!" she hissed. "And don't you ever dare do that again!"
James reached for her once more and she whipped out her wand. "I'm not joking," she growled with a dangerous look in her eye. "One more move, Potter, and I swear…"
"Come on, Evans," he said, holding his hands up defensively. "It was an accident." He reached for her again and she flicked her wand and a cold grip encircled both of his wrists. He looked down, and couldn't help but give Lily a smug grin.
"Lils, if you're into this sort of thing, you only had to say…"
Lily let out a shriek and stormed down the hallway to the laughter of the students around them. Above the noise, James shouted at her. "You forgot your books, darling!"
