"Whateeeeeeeeeeever you say, sir," she quipped. Barely holding back a yawn as she watched the television screen intently.

"See, now you're not listening to me. When you talk like that, you're not listening."

He grumbled, as Sam watched the television and continued acting as if though Jack didn't exist at all.

"There is a line," Jack continued, "between politeness or acquiescence, and blatant condescension."

Sam took a swig from her beer bottle.

"Of course there is, sir."

Her voice was laced with sarcasm and what would be insubordination if they weren't off duty. Jack threw his hands up in the air.

"You're doing it again! You're answering, but you're not listening to me!"

Sam turned her head and faced him, smiling that Carter smile that got him every time.

"I learned from the best," she said simply.

Jack groaned in frustration, because how could he disagree with that?
