Prologue
many centuries ago in Ireland, there was a man named Jack. He is a farmer who own vegetables in his field and his most famous vegetable is turnips who happen to be Jack's favourite food. He Is a meanand selfish person who often drinks all day andplay
/naughty tricks on everyone. He is quite lazy and would ratherdrinks than farming. Nobody likes him anyway.
At night, he went to the tavern and meet a mysterious stranger. The two share drinks and laugh each other jokes. After Hours Ofdrinking, they go outside and the stranger reveal to him that he was the devil who want to collect his soul. Although
Drunk,
Jack somberly realised hislife had cometo a end. Luckily,Jack is a very crafty trickster and is nobody's fool. With his silver tongue, Jack ask the devil to let him drink his ale before going to hell. The devil accept hisrequest
and supplied him with many alcoholicbeverages. Upon quenching his thirst, Jack asked the devil to pay for the bill,to the devil's surprise. Jack convinced the devil to transformed into a silver coin with which pay the bartender.
Shrewdly,Jack stuck the nowtransformed devil into his pocket which contained a crucifix(Jack stole it from the church). The crucifix prevent the devil from transforminginto his original form. This coerced the devil to agree
to Jack's Demand:in exchange for his freedom, he must spared Jack's soul for ten years.
Ten years later, Jack was walking in the country at night and came across the devil who came to collect his soul again. But Jack had a very cunning idea. As the devil prepared to take him to hell, Jack asked if he could have one Apple to feed his starving
/belly. The Devilagain accept his request. When the devil climbed up to the apple tree, the drunk trickster surrounded its base with crucifixes. Frustrated at being tricked again, the devil demanded to be released. As Jack did before,he madea
demand:that his soul is never be taken by the devilto hell. The devil had no choice but to accept Jack's request and is set free.
One year later, Jack's life came to a end. The town finally hadenough of jack'strickery and mean pranks and decided to teach him a lesson. First, they made a surprise box filled with snakes and spiders,they sent itto the humourlessKing
who hates pranks. The King open it and the surprise scares him so much that he almost had a heartattack. Furious, The King sent his guards to demand who is responsiblefor the heinous gift and the villagers eagerly framedit on
/Jack. Jack is taken to the execution and had his head chopped off ending his life.
After he died, Jack is not allowed to go to heaven because of his vile reputation. So he go to hell but the devil refused to let him in because of the request he makes. This leave Jack having nowhere to go. To warn others, he gave jack anember,markinghim
a denizen of the netherworld. From now on, Jack is doomed to roam the earth with eternity and hold a ember inside the hollowed turnip with a face carved into a jack o'lantern. He later become known as stingy Jack.
