Disclaimer: I don't own Harry Potter (or anything to do with it). Never have, never will.

A/N: This was written back in February to help destroy writer's block. It was then promptly forgotten and rediscovered just today. It's actually complete (a rarity with my writing) and I don't think it's too bad so here I am, uploading it. I've rated it just to be safe but do say if you think it should be changed. Anyway, on with the fic!

Knifed

Remus Lupin stumbled forward, his eyes widening. Mentally he cursed himself for not being alert enough. But, of course, it was too late for that now. He could feel the knife in his back, both literally and figuratively. He could feel the silver rushing into his bloodstream, coursing through him, poisoning him.

Remus had never seen his attacker. However, one did not need to see to know. He had a very good idea of who it was. The last betrayal. Though, somehow, it was hardly surprising.

It seemed to take an age to hit the ground. Remus could sense the life slowly ebbing out of him. He was in utter agony and yet he felt absolutely nothing. His mind was so disjointed, his feelings were so inchoate that one second he found himself wondering how it was possible to feel so much at once and the next it made so much sense.

Remus found that, out of the mist, last, despairing thoughts came through. What about Harry? How will he cope with yet another friend dying? For he knew he was going to die. He had conflicting feelings about that. And what about the rest of the battle? The rest of the war? Can we even win this? What hope is there?

As he... well, waited, Remus found memories of the past emerging again. His beloved parents, getting accepted into Hogwarts, being sorted into Gryffindor, his amazing friends- James, Sirius and (once) Peter...

His friends. The ones that accepted and appreciated him for who he was. The ones that supported him every full moon and more besides. The ones that he had had so many good adventures with.

What he wouldn't give to see them again...

And suddenly, there they were. There they all were. His parents, James, Lily, Sirius, the lot. Everyone who he'd lost and missed dearly.

They'd been reunited once more.

His parents smiled proudly at him, and James, Lily and Sirius all beamed at him. Then they all started moving forwards, chattering amongst themselves, completely at ease.

Remus stayed where he was, wondering if this was some sort of dream.

Sirius, without warning, stopped, and turned around.

"Well, come on, slow coach!"

Right then, a feeling of immense peace washed over Remus. The cares of the previous world slipped away, and he only felt contentment, and hope. Harry was going to be just fine. He would come out on top. The good side would come out on top. It always did. The war would be won.

Remus Lupin laughed, and moved to catch up with the others.

END

A/N: Well, there you go. I hope it entertained someone (or even many someones) out there. I'd love to know your views on it. No flames please, but constructive criticism is much appreciated!
