Nobu still sat alone with his guitar. Three years had passed since that fateful night, but time remained still for him. He missed everything about that summer. Her smell, her touch, her laugh, her cheeriness, the way she lit up a room when she walked in. He made a mistake giving her up, he should have fought for her, he thought. But then again, would she have wanted him to? His fingers slightly graced his guitar. He knew she wasn't happy with Takumi, but he also knew she'd completely forgotten about that summer by now. They only saw each other occasionally, and when they did things were incredibly strained, he almost hated seeing her. Nana attributed it to them still loving each other. He could hear her voice yelling those words at him, telling him to go after Hatchi, though he wasn't sure if that was for his benefit or hers. He'd formed a melody by now. It was pointless to pretend he didn't still care for her, but it would be even worse to show it. It would probably make her hate him. She'd blame him for waiting too long. BLAST was successful now, but he could never compare to Takumi. She knew that too. He began writing the notes down. He still loved her. Against all odds and all reason, he did. There was no way to go back, or to change the future, but that didn't change the way his heart responded to every mention or thought of her. There was no way he would ever get to tell her he loved her again. He wanted to give her everything, and somehow prove his love for her, but all he had to give her was a short song that she would never hear. He threw out the crumpled sheet paper and left his guitar on the ground.
I did this in a random bout of inspiration, so feel free to correct me for any mistakes. Thanks for reading!
