Prologue
Seventeen years ago, Lord Voldemort murdered James and Lily Potter. However, what if he didn't? What if Severus failed
to give him the prophecy? The prophecy that Harry Potter will learn fifteen years later, the one he will be striving to fulfill.
What if Pettigrew was caught before he could tell him their location? What if the Potters lived?
I take you back to Godric's Hallow on Halloween of the year 1981.
Chapter 1
"James' Promise"
The night was calm as a female rocked her child to sleep, her pale mouth formed into a kind smile. The baby cried, and she picked him
up, muttering quietly, "It's okay, Harry, mummy's here. Everything will be alright." Her voice was sweet, her eyes were emerald, and her
hair was the darkest shade of red. Yes, this was dear Lily Potter. Harry giggled, his small hand grasping hers. It was a beautiful sight, and
for James Potter, it was his family. "How's he?" James asked, walking into the room, smiling brightly as Harry squirmed in his mother's
arms. "He's brilliant. I just can't get him to bed." Lily said as Harry yawned, shutting his tiny green eyes slightly. She continued to rock
him until he fell into a deep and glorious sleep, drifting off to a wondrous dream. "James…has Dumbledore said anything prior to our last
Order meeting?" James nodded vilely. "It was Peter. Dumbledore caught him before he told Voldemort our whereabouts." Lily shook
violently. Peter Pettigrew – a traitor? "I can't believe it…and he was your friend." "But, he always chose to befriend those with the most
power. And frankly, he chose the side he thought would win the war." Knock, Knock. Someone was at the door…
James motioned Lily to stay seated. With a nod, Lily watched intently as James went up to the door, his wand ready. As he opened the
door, it burst open. "I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT – "Sirius roared, waking Harry up. " Nice, Padfoot. You've woken Harry." James
sighed. "Sorry, Lily, James. Dumbledore's just told me what happened. That bloody scoundrel! I can't believe he was in line with
Voldemort." Lily nodded, rocking Harry to sleep again. "Sirius, just sit down." Sirius walked across the room and keenly watched Harry.
"He always liked the powerful, eh James?" James nodded. "Well, I'll bring a pot of tea. Sirius?" "Yes, thanks, Lily." Lily laid Harry in
James' arms and walked into the kitchen. "You know, Remus should be here soon. Almost had a heart attack when he found out." Lily
screamed. "MERLIN, REMUS! You scared me!" James chortled. "Eh, guess he's here." "Lily! So sorry. Didn't mean to alarm you.
Erm – is James in the living room?" Lily nodded slowly. "Sirius is here as well." Remus walked into the living room. "Evening James,
Sirius." He said, sitting next to James. "'Lo Harry. How're you?" Harry smiled, squirming in James' arms. "Mad…We trusted Peter…
And he – Bloody traitor." Remus muttered quickly. Sirius set his jaw, nodding. "We can just be thankful he didn't have enough time to
tell our location." Lily said, coming in with a steaming pot of tea. "Yes, thank Merlin for that." James said, putting his arm around Lily's
shoulder as she sat down next to him. Lily took Harry in her arms, tears slowly falling down her face. "Lily, everything will be alright, I promise."
