"Where to this time?" Abe sighed into the phone, irritated at having been called at three in the morning and half tempted to roll over, go back to sleep, and let the police pick his dad up. Fortunately the location that the man who'd raised him had given this time wasn't somewhere he'd be afraid to go at three in the morning, and it would seem that the police already had picked him up considering where he was.
After hauling his just-barely seventy year-old backside out of bed and dressing, he drove to the local hospital where his father was checking himself out.
"So, what was it this time?" he asked his dad whom everyone believed to either be his roommate, son, or boytoy depending on whom you asked as soon as they got out to the car and the good Dr. Morgan slid down the passenger seat, practically sitting himself down in the footwell, apparently attempting to hide from the small crowd of news reporters who were milling about the main entrance of the hospital.
This seemed to have the makings for a very interesting story. Or at least one that could provide some amusement until next time.
"Beheaded and then drowned in the storm sewer twice." Henry said, looking as if he didn't want to talk about whatever had led to the small media circus. "I hate it when it rains."
"Yeah, but at least you didn't have to pull yourself out of the sewer sewer this time." Abe replied, glad that he wouldn't have to clean his car after this latest escapade. The East River was almost as bad as a sewer, and the smell tended to linger.
"Being rescued from the storm drain wasn't the worst part this time." Henry replied as he shifted up into a better position now that they were well away from the hospital.
"What was?" Abe asked, hoping that tonight's escapade would be worth more than a week's worth of friendly ribbing. Possibly even something to throw back in his father's face the next time the man called him on one of his failings.
"If I didn't know any better, I would be willing to swear that that same man beheaded me before, about seventy years ago." Dr. Morgan replied.
