Elphaba didn't stifle her laugh at seeing Galinda half-drag Fiyero into the library. She thought of a Toy Poodle taking a reluctant Great Dane for a walk. Galinda was obviously distraught. "Elphie! Elphie, I need your help."

"What is it?" She asked, telling herself to not notice how Fiyero's blue shirt brought out his eyes. "Are you alright?"

"Well, someone we know is in danger of failing math, and if he does, he will be shipped back to the Vinkus." She looked pointedly at her boyfriend. "Will you help?"

Elphaba blanched. How could she think of math when she was talking to him? "Um, alright... OK, I can help."

For her part, Galinda didn't notice Elphaba's discomfort. "Thank Ozma." she squealed, depositing Fiyero in a chair at a table, sure that her best friend would make everything all better. "I'll be back later, Dearest! Have fun!"

"We will..." Elphaba heard her voice say.

---

"Please, please Fiyero, just try. I promise you will pass your exam if you just remember: The sum of the two shorter sides of a right triangle squared is equal to the length of the remaining side squared." She smiled, hoping he would remember.

"Umm.. OK, Elphaba." He said, distractedly. He was still trying to lower his heart rate from when she had leaned across the table to point to an equation. Why did Galinda assume he could learn math from Elphaba. "Thanks for your help."

He stood up then, and chivalraously held up Elphaba's sweater for her. "You really don't think I need you to help me put on a sweater." The boy can't do math... How did he get into Shiz... ooh he smiled at me.

"Miss Elphaba, if you taught all classes at Shiz, I'm sure my attention would be held." Not on the lesson, but...

He did not want to be there. He did not want to listen to the Wizard of Oz's praise for the Glorius Witch Hunters. He did not want a reward. He wanted to return to Kiamo Ko, and assure himself that his Elphaba was safe.

He had been glib when he told Dorothy he was brainless- she had taken it for fact, though he could hardly blame her with Glinda acting like Lurline, and Elphaba like the original Kumbric Witch. The child would believe the talking Scarecrow was brainless.

So he was given a reward: a diploma. Little did the Wizard know, the Scarecrow her recieved one from Shiz University years before. They looked at him expectantly, and he distractedly told them the first thing to come to mind.

"The sum of the square roots of any two sides of an isosceles triangle is equal to the square root of the remaining side."

The Wizard gave him an odd look, but doesn't correct him. It would ruin the moment. Somewhere, Elphaba is screaming in horror for the fact that her hero is incapable of geometry.
