Haley pulled on her jeans and sweatshirt and ran out the door as Nathan grabbed her hand. She stumbled down the first step and Nathan kept running. H: Jesus Nathan, do you think you could slow it down! Nathan turned around and called back to Haley, who was sitting on the stairs pouting and pretending to sleep. N: Hales come on! We have to get to the hospital Pulling her into a hug, Nathan grabbed Haley's hand and stared her in the eyes. Haley could see the pain and the hurt in him so, she pulled on a smile. H: Let's go then! She kissed him on the cheek and quickened her steps towards the car.

Nathan drove this road to school everyday for four years to high school and the year he'd been in college so far but, it never seemed so long to him. He knew every bump, curve, and turn in the road yet, tonight everything was blurring. The rocks on the dirt road made the car shake and Nathan could hear sirens approaching behind him. The sirens got louder and louder as he drove on and soon, red lights were flashing in his rear view mirror, reflecting into his eyes. Nathan swerved to the shoulder of the road letting the chain of ambulances pass. Siren after siren left Haley and Nathan in a cloud of dirt and dust. He couldn't sit still and his hands were quivering, he looked down at the digital clock. 8:00 am......he had gotten the call a half hour ago and was told to hurry. Tick! 8:01 am, a half hour and one minute ago. The sign ahead showed some hope: Hospital- 1 mile. "Just one more mile, I can make it, he'll still be there, and, I'll be able to tell him how much I really do love him before he goes." Thoughts we're swirling in Nathan's head when another siren followed them. Pulling over to the shoulder to let them pass, Tick!, another minute passed. 8:02 am. He centered the truck back on the road and saw the upcoming sign: Tree Hill Hospital. Another cloud of dust swirled in the wind, and Haley's voice got louder. H: Nathan! Watch the road!
