"What do you mean you don't know why?" Jack was angry and his voice showed it, yet Daniel could see that Jack was also feeling scared and helpless. Daniel shrugged and faced his team. The blank walls of the military holding cell reflecting his future at that point, blank.
"All I know is that a book has been written under my name based on the SGC and the people who work in it. Apparently the story focuses on a team of four people, one not human that travel around the galaxy using a device called the gateway to the stars. In order to defeat an alien race who threaten the safety of the human race. It starts with the first mission to Abydos and is apparently the start of a series, therefore as the only person who has that much information about this facility is me and the fact it was to be published under my name I have been 'relieved of my duties here at the SGC'. As I am not under military jurisdiction I cannot be placed in a military jail. The president has informed the General that I am reside outside of the USA and I am not to be told about anyone or anything about the facility so as to avoid another situation."
Sam sat down on the bed her blue eyes wide in disbelief a tear running down her left check. "Where will you live?"
Daniel shook his head. "I am not allowed to tell you in case you try and contact me."
Jacks' hold on his temper disappeared. "They can't do this to you, you are the best linguist on base, you found out how to work this bloody contraption, for gods sake you are the Stargate program!"
Daniel closed his eyes forcing the tears to go. He opened them to find himself looking at Teal'c who thus far had remained silent, "When do you leave?"
Daniel shrugged. "Tomorrow I will be escorted from the base to an airport where I will be taken to an undisclosed location and sent on my way with no chance of return for at least 10 years if I am not found innocent."
Sam engulfed him in a hug; her promises to find a solution merely a reflex to all the other predicaments SG-1 had found themselves in. A knock on the door served as a reminder of his situation.
"I guess I best say goodbye." Daniel returned Sams hug and placed a brotherly kiss on her forehead. Teal'c stepped forward. Daniel gave him a half smile and gave the jaffa a hug. Whispering his thanks for all his help over the years.
"Danny why would you of all people do something that you know will cost you your job, your home and your family?" Daniel shrugged, not trusting himself to speak. The door opened and the guard motioned for the three remaining members of SG-1 to leave. Jack stepped forward and pulled Daniel into a hug that Daniel wished would stop. He didn't want to be forced to leave his friends. When they did leave he allowed himself to cry. His tears soaked the pillow.
The next day the only sign that showed that a Doctor Daniel Jackson knew of a top secret Stargate project was four photos. Three in neat frames on office desks in a mountain in Colorado and one in the wallet of an exile boarding a plane to the United Kingdom.
