She sat in a small room alone, a flower in her hand. A forget me not. She flashed back to the first time she'd seen one of these flowers.
"Babe, c'mon its time to go!" she hollered up the stairs. Jane appeared from around the corner, holding a beautiful blue flower. Her face softened and she smiled.
"What's that?" she asked sweetly, stepping closer once Jane had made it down the stairs. Jane laughed and handed it to her.
"Its a forget me not, because I never want you to forget me. Whatever happens, wherever we go in life, I never want you to forget me. And its also a promise. A promise that I'll never forget you." she explained.
Maura flashed back to the present day. Not that she wanted to. She wanted to get lost in the past and never have to feel this pain again. The door to her small isolated room opened and Frost peeked in.
"Maura, its time to go." he said softly. She nodded and stood, wiping the last of her tears away. It was time to be strong. She walked slowly out of the room and faced the crowd of people. she sighed and walked between the chairs to the long isle reaching down towards the last place she wanted to go. But she walked down the isle, instead of running the other way. she stopped at the casket and looked down into the silent, emotionless face of the love of her life. She placed the flower she had been clutching gently on Jane's chest and leaned in to whisper,
"Its a promise. A promise that I'll never forget you."
