Blaine picked up his little girl and plopped her on his lap. She giggled. Everything was funny to the four year old who loved spending time with her daddy.
"You look so pretty today Kaylie. Did Daddy K pick that out for you?" She nodded. Blaine smiled at his daughter, but he felt the sad pangs he experienced often had when he noticed his daughter's silence. They had taken her in as foster parents and adopted her when her mother had officially lost custody. She had been told to shut up a lot and hit when she cried. Even two years later she still didn't like to speak.
"Since we don't have to make dinner yet, should we color Daddy K a picture?" she nodded excitedly. She loved coloring, especially when she made presents. She hopped off of his lap and got her crayons and paper. She dumped the sixty-four set on the table and passed her daddy a pink crayon. He took it and began to sketch.
"What are you drawing Kaylie Cat?" He watched as she drew something somewhat resembling a flower. He drew a smiley face and held it up to her next to his head. "Does it look like me?" She shook her head and began adding to her own picture. He watched as she drew three blocky figures, two larger than the other. One had curly black hair, the other with straight brown hair. The rest of the bodies were a swirly mess. When she placed a last emphatic mark on the drawing he picked up her drawing.
"I love it honey! It looks just like us. Do you want to put this on the fridge?" She nodded yes. The walked to the kitchen and he pinned it to the appliance with an alphabet magnet.
"Do you want to help me with dinner Kaylie Kat?" She nodded again.
"Macaroni and Cheese or pancakes?" Kaylie tugged at his shirt at the second option, pulling his plaid jacket down.
"With the shapes honey?" She smiled and went to go get the cookie cutters. Blaine pulled down a box of mix and started to get the bowls and utensils out. He watched from the corner of his eye as his little girl sorted through the shapes, carefully picking out ones for herself and her fathers. The kitty cat for Kaylie, the music note for Daddy B, a shoe for Daddy K.
"Kaylie Kat, do you want to help me mix?" He had already added the ingredients and passed her the spoon. He placed the bowl in front of her and watched as she spilled some of the batter on the table. Most parents would have been mad, but he knew how delighted she was to be able to help.
Blaine kissed his daughter's cheek. "Thanks honey. Go set the table while Daddy makes the pancakes and eggs." He watched as the girl meticulously set three places. He turned on the stove and began to cook. He scrambled the eggs and took out the syrup to heat in the microwave.
"Here you go honey, start cutting." He placed a plate of pancakes in front of her. She started humming as she worked. Blaine continued on cooking.
"Where's my little princess?" Blaine heard the door swing open and watched as his daughter's eyes lit up.
"Hey Kay, how was school?" Kurt picked up Kaylie and swung her around. She giggled. "Was it good?" She nodded.
He switched her to one hip and went to her second father. "Hey baby." Kurt gave Blaine a kiss. "How was your day?"
"Awesome, I picked up Kaylie from school and we went to the park for lunch." He flipped the pancake that was on the stove and wiped the sticky batter from his hands on Kaylie's nose. Her smile grew bigger as she wrapped her arms tighter around Kurt's neck. "Kaylie Cat, why don't you let Daddy get changed? You make such a mess with the syrup." Kurt pried the girl's arms off him.
"Kaylie, baylie. Come help me pick out a shirt?" Kurt set the girl on the ground and took her hand.
Blaine smile, when had he gotten so lucky? He had the perfect family.
