With a smile on her face, she rushed to his office and walked in. He was half hidden by paperwork on his desk and Matsumoto lay on the couch.

"Hi Rangiku! Hi Toshiro," she greeted as she sat herself on the armrest of the couch. Rangiku said hi back but the captain just nodded.

"Hey Taicho, how come she gets to call you Toshiro?"

"Matsumoto, shouldn't you be doing paperwork?"

With a nervous smile the lieutenant rushed out waving goodbye at Karin.

He finally put down the brush and looked up at Karin as she closed the door and slid onto the desk. "Karin why are you here? Isn't your first year graduation celebration ongoing?"

She smiled sweetly at him, "Have you forgotten what day is today?" His eyes widened, 'She couldn't have remembered.' He thought.

She pulled out a small bag and dropped it on his lap, "Hurry up and see what it is Toshiro," she said when he raised an eyebrow at her.

"Watermelon-flavored sweets? What's this for?"

"To eat silly, I asked Ichigo to get me some yesterday. Don't tell me you forgot what day it is today."

"I'm just surprised you remembered."

He unwrapped one and popped it in his mouth before giving her a genuine smile, "Delicious."

It wasn't every day that the Ice Prince smiled, let alone complemented someone.

She grinned at him before grabbing his hand and pulling him up, she jumped off the desk.

"What are you doing Karin, I'm still busy."

"Shut up and come on Toshiro."

A few minutes later the he found himself sitting on the edge of a cliff there with Karin, watching the sunset.

She leaned her head on his shoulder and he leaned his on hers.

As the sun set and the sky became filled with beautiful, captivating colors Karin turned her head to face the man beside her.

"Hey Toshiro," she said, a sweet and gentle smile playing on her lips.

"Yes Karin," he murmured, she leaned forward and kissed him.

"Happy Birthday Whitie," she murmured against his lips as he kissed her back.
