Why, why was this happening to him? To the both of them? He wanted to scream, to pierce the very souls of the beings responsible for this horror that had been folded out before the pair. His emerald optics were swollen, puffy from the buildup of the feelings eating away at his sanity.
"I will never let...you f-fall...i'll stand up for you...forever..."
In response to the words flowing out in gasps, he looked down at the broken teen in cradled in his arms that was bleeding profusely with life slipping away from his gorgeous blue eyes every second. The once messy ebony locks of hair were now matted down with blood. And yet with the crimson pools of fatality attaching to their bodies as they left his own...Dick was singing to him. Just like a natural songbird, just like his title. Even with cracked ribs piercing into his collapsing lungs, he managed to choke out words of devotion in an almost inaudible whisper. And Wally honestly wanted to pour out saltwater grievances in anguish as his fingers stroked the bloodied strands. He didn't care if Kid Flash and Robin were icons of strong wills and the art of being a superhero. Right now they were Wally West and Dick Grayson, two humans alone in a ruin of shattered dreams and hopes.
They shouldn't have strayed from the team during their mission.
Shouldn't have thought that they could handle things on their own this time around.
Because now there was nothing.
"I'll be there for you...t-through it all...even if saving you sends me to heaven..."
Without any thought process, any hesitation, Wally leaned lower and pressed his lips to DIck's own as tears streamed down his cheeks. The passion grew as the liplock was returned in a weak bout of understanding and a regret of never performing the act sooner. Through sputtering saliva and an unfathomable bond that could never be broken, Dick's chest gave one last heave before lowering itself to the fact of never moving again. The hand that had been reached up to cup Wally's cheek now fell limp, and Wally caught it with a loose grip, choking on the tears that rushed down because he knew he had lost the one person in this universe he had ever fallen in love with.
Robin had sacrificed his life for his best friend, teammate, and above all his light.
The flames may have dulled, but the light would never flicker out.
