"Eyes Closed"
By Kitty Rasputin
When I close my eyes I remember
a steed that was really a sheepdog named Ambrosius,
talkative door knockers,
a gentle giant that was cleverly disguised as a big orange-furred monster,
the cleaners,
a valiant fox that always called me "my lady,"
helping hands,
an ancient wise-man and his sarcastic hat,
the oubliette,
reddish orange creatures that could remove their appendages and reattach them at will,
a helpful worm with neon blue hair,
false alarms,
and a cowardly dwarf that always came back to rescue me.
When I close my eyes I remember
a white barn owl,
a crystal that would show me my dreams,
thirteen hours,
a cruel and melodious voice that mocked me at every turn,
a tasty, tainted peach,
untamed platinum hair,
searching relentlessly through a masquerade of goblin faces,
that Cheshire cat grin,
dancing to a song that only we could hear in a place where we could see only each other,
falling down,
a mismatched pair of eyes,
"fear me, love me, do as I say,"
and an unforgettable face that haunts my every waking moment.
When I close my eyes I remember everything that I have lost.
When I close my eyes, he still has power over me.
I wrote this for my creative writing class and thought everyone else might enjoy it. Don't worry. I haven't forgotten about "What You Wish For." I just got stuck for a little bit. Read and review.
