Late realizations- A one-shot

Let me go to perish away

So that memory may remember my name

And when life's long lullaby stutters

I'll sleep knowing the loss of my gain.

Today, tomorrow and the future hold no promises and Sasuke finally realizes that now. It's one of the many devastating things that have made itself known to him; there hasn't been any light to shred that truth into another.

Itachi, he thinks, would have told him that but in a way where he would have listened and comprehended, though now that thought doesn't even matter, doesn't even exist because Sasuke hasn't the heart to listen anymore- its over for him.

Some days he feels like he's in a trance, stuck in an illusion only a demented Uchiha would conjure. Things come out of his mouth, thoughts and promises that he finds horrifying but he knows it's all him and there's no more time to shudder off the deafening cold that has captured his heart. However there are days when Sasuke catches a rift of sunshine. He encounters figures of pink and yellow which feel so familiar, which feel so comforting, that he loses his breath and when he takes in oxygen it's like being born again-snatching that first burst of air only the pure are granted. As soon as that feeling comes it goes, it never lasts, never will. The darkness won't let him escape but most of all he won't let himself escape.

It's too late

It's too late

IT'S TOO LATE

Indeed it's too late because the greenness of his once abode and the colors of sunshine have all faded to black. Happiness has lost its flavor -the bitter coat of unfortunate days is all Sasuke can taste and all he hears is madness, the decaying scream of his dying life.

So when the blue of the Rasengan penetrates his haze and reality comes back with another type of heartbreaking screech he is satisfied. He sees yellow, he sees pink, and he sees green and he finally understands.

It really is too late

The past always had a knack for catching up and Sasuke has never been good with running away from it.
