Today is the day. The day I meet my wife.

I hope she likes me. It is terrifying not knowing anything about her. My parents won't even tell me her name. I bet she is beautiful.

Every sound sets my heart off like a canon. Finally when poor chest can't take it anymore the chiming a thousand bells breaks the silence. She's here.

I take a minute to gain my composure, taking seven deep breaths before heading downstairs to join my parents.

"Are you nervous, my son?"

"Never." I repeat back with a weak smile. It sounds funny when I say it because my mouth is so dry. My palms are sweating as if to make up for lack of moisture in my mouth. I press them against the sides of my legs hoping that will help.

"I was," he smirks continuing the conversation, "It took three guards to get me to come down here." My mother gives him a faux look of disapproval. "But I'm very glad I went through with it."

The bells stop without warning. It is time.

Six women in cloaked in yellow enter followed by a seveth in red. Following them is a man flanked by several guards.

"Prince Caspar, may I present to you my seventh daughter, the beautiful Nikoletta."

I bow to show my acceptance before stepping forward. As I move closer the women in yellow disputes. Slowly I take the edges of the red veil into my hands and while looking directly at the silhouette of her eyes I left the veil.

She is beautiful. More beautiful than I could have imagined. More beautiful than a thousand sunsets. It takes my breath away. I cannot speak. There is something I'm supposed to sau, some traditional greeting, but I can't remember it. I can't even remember my name. It's just me and her. That's all there has ever been and all there ever will be. How I've lived this long without knowing this is beyond me.

She blinks and I swear the world stops turning. Hi," she whispers through a smile.

"Hi."
