Author's note: I wrote this story in the style of a newspaper article in the New York Times.

Disclaimer: If I was Ryan Murphy: Finnchel never would have separated, Britanna would SO be together, Karofsky would be out of the closet and possibly fighting with Blaine over Kurt and Sam and Mercedes would have kissed on camera by now. Alas I am no Ryan Murphy and none of those things happened/has happened (yet ;))

Surprise Night on Broadway

Broadway has always been full of surprises. New Broadway star, Rachel Berry, discovered exactly what that meant. Rachel Berry has always dreamed of making it on Broadway. She even joined Glee club in high school. Which is how she met high school sweetheart, Finn Hudson. After graduation, Hudson and Berry along with Hudson's stepbrother, Kurt Hummel, moved to New York from Lima, OH. Berry auditioned for the role of Elphaba for the re-opening of Wicked. "I've always related to Elphaba in an odd way" states Berry, so receiving the role was almost a dream come true. Unfortunately for Berry, Hudson joined the air force and was sent to the Middle East nearly a year prior to Berry receiving the role. "It broke my heart when I realized that Finn wouldn't be able to see me." Berry said tearfully, "So I just called Kurt and cried."

Although (as Rachel would say) the one person that mattered wouldn't be there, Hudson's family, her high school friends from Glee Club (including the teacher, Will Schuester, and his wife, Emma Schuester) would be attending. As Berry had hoped, she became a star overnight.

Hudson's family planned an after party for Rachel with a few surprises in store. So Berry got cleaned up and headed to her Times Square condo to celebrate. However, Berry received the shock of her life when she walked in. Above her flat screen TV was a banner stating one simple question: "Rach, will you marry me?" And on said TV, via web cam, was Hudson himself. "I was shocked and happy. Even though he wasn't actually there, it was almost like he was." But the surprises didn't end there. After a few exchanged words Hudson asked to be excused to attend to his captain.

Five minutes later, Hudson returned. However instead of returning to the web cam, Hudson approached Berry from behind, after 15 months of deployment, solitaire engagement ring in hand. "It was like a dream. I turned around and he was there."

As romance goes, this takes the cake. Hudson even went so far as to apologize for such a simple ring. "I don't think he quite realized that just being here was enough."

It was also revealed to Berry that Hudson had seen her performance. "I couldn't miss it, not for the world." Hudson stated, he also said "I'm really happy to be home. I really missed her. I probably wouldn't have been able to pull this off without my family."

Needless to say, instead of celebrating an after party, Berry and her friends had an engagement party.
