Author's note: Ok, listen up. It's a little complicated as to where this story continued from. I was writing a story called Squad 0 (www(dot)fanfiction(dot)net/s/6112263/1/Squad_0), where Hitsugaya, our beloved child prodigy was promoted to Squad 0. It was during the time when Hitsugaya was waiting for the day for promotion to arrive, a friend of mine, justjoy wrote a chapter on this incident (www(dot)fanfiction(dot)net/s/6191197/1/Squad_0_The_Road_Not_Taken), in which Matsumoto was going to tell her taichou a story (still yet to be updated). And well, this is my version of the story of what she's going to tell. Yup, so this is the story Matsuomoto is telling Hitsugaya. Hope you guys enjoyed it.

A story

"There was a girl. A girl with short blond hair which stood out from the crowd. She found herself in a village. It was bare and dry. She walked up to the people living there, she asked for water, they ignored her. When she asked for food, they scattered away with horror plastered on their face.

It was a few days later she found out that souls aren't suppose to feel hunger like hollows do. But, it was too late. No one in the village dare to talk to her, no one dare to even go near her. They were afraid of her. They had even tried to kill her or chase her away. She hid from them. For weeks, she survived only on the water bought by rain and tried her best to ignore the hunger she shouldn't have felt. But one day, she finally fainted out of hunger."

Turning around, she looked at the figure sitting on the rock, his sword lying on his lap. "Taichou, do you know who saved her?"

The white haired kid looked back at her, his eyes still but gaze soft and gentle.

"Gin did. Ichimaru Gin saved her." She said observing her taichou's reaction. He didn't move nor did he lift his gaze.

"Gin saved her and took care of her. He had even taught her how to control her spirit power and finally he took her to school… in order to become a shinigami. And be able take care of herself."

Still looking at her, the white haired kid said quietly, "But, he left."

"Yeah, he did." She stared at the river, listening to the splashing sound of the water. Tears slided down her cheeks which she wiped it off with the back of her hand. With some effort she put on a smile and tried to continue cheerfully but all came out as a choking sound, "B-but, before he left… she found a kid. A kid who brought happiness back to her life after he changed. A stubborn and short-tempered kid…"

She gave a small chuckle but tears continued to slip from her eyes.

"But who had even thought that the very same kid would soon become her superior. A superior who loved to give death stares, a superior who tries to protect everyone. A cold but caring superior." She said smiling.

"But he's leaving too." Hitsugaya stated quietly.

Matsumoto suddenly spun around and hugged the shocked kid, she whispered, "Yes. But he'll come back. He's just going off for a while. Just a while. To train. To become better. To become stronger."

She smiled as she felt the body in her arms relaxed.

"So that he could protect everyone." She finished the story and started crying.
