All The Wonders Of The Universe.
Tate stood before his old bedroom door, taking a deep breath to calm his anxieties and build up some courage. They hadn't spoken in months, how many was it? Five? Six? He didn't know anymore, but he knew he couldn't stay away any longer. He knocked three times on the painted wood before entering the dark room. Immediately his senses were caressed with the smell of cigarettes and her strange perfume which he had grown to love.
"Violet? You awake?" He whispered into the almost empty space.
"Yeah."
"Mind if I come in?" He bit his lip and awaited her answer, preparing himself for cold rejection.
"Sure, why not."
He let out a sigh of relief and moved cautiously towards the bed and perched on the end of it. He watched as the end of her cigarette lit up briefly as she took a drag; allowing an orange glow to softly illuminate her features, giving him just enough time to gaze at her pale lips that encircled the paper, and her long lashes that cast shadows upon her cheeks. He listened as she inhaled the smoke and then softly let it spiral into the dead air before disappearing.
He was so captivated by her, by everything she did, no matter how simple, no matter how complex, to him she was the most interesting, most beautiful creature he had ever laid eyes on; she was like art.
"Have you ever thought about how big the universe is? And how puny we are in comparison? We all think we're so important but we're not, we're all so insignificant." He didn't say anything, he just wanted to sit and listen to the voice that calmed the storm, the voice that made him a completely different person, the voice that made him happy. How he'd missed their late night chats, where they'd sit for hours talking about anything.
"We're definitely not alone. There's got to be life out there somewhere. What if there's someone on another planet, wondering exactly the same thing?"
"There are others out there. But they're not little green men, I think that they're just like us, maybe they're more advanced, and maybe they're not. Maybe we'll never know." He answered, speaking softly.
"I used to think that our universe was all inside of someone's head, that our whole world is just an idea that somebody thought up, and that unbeknownst to us we also have an entire galaxy in our heads, and the survival of that galaxy lies in our hands."
"I think that's a beautiful idea."
She took one final drag of her cigarette before snuffing it out in the ashtray on the bedside table.
"Lie with me?"
He didn't hesitate to crawl over to her side and lie beside her small frame as they stared at the ceiling. She sighed deeply.
"I miss you, Tate. I miss you a lot."
His heart flipped as hope swelling within his lungs, restricting his breathing.
"I miss you too Violet, I miss you so, so much. You're everything to me... I love you."
He felt her hand slip into his and he grasped it tight, as though it would slip away if he didn't.
"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry Violet."
"It's okay Tate-"
"No. No it's not. I hurt you, I really hurt you. I was stupid."
"Tate, I may not be able to forgive you, but I guess I'm willing to start over if you are?"
"Of course, anything you want!"
Then she kissed him, and all of his broken pieces came back together again, he felt whole.
And as they lay there, staring at the ceiling, they said nothing. They didn't need words; just being in each other's company was enough. Regardless of how big the universe was, she was his, and that's all that mattered.
I'm so sorry this is so sappy but I couldn't resist.
I hope you enjoyed it, please review and let me know what you think!
Thank you liebchen!
