"Imagine Person A falling asleep on Person B's shoulder."

Movies nights are fun. Well, according to Tom, anyway.

"We used to hold them all the time in high school, me and Quinn," he says casually, as they seat themselves in the one small armchair in their living room, Tom's legs hanging over the side of one of the arms to make room for both of them.

"But, what purpose do they have?" She frowns, trying to make sense of it.

"Uh...fun?"

"That's your answer to everything."

"Because that's the answer to life, little Lexi." He pecks her on the nose with a broad grin. "Fun is what makes the world go round."

"I thought it was money...?" She frowns as she muses. "Or peace...or love...or something equally soppy and ridiculous. We all know that the gravity of the planet orbiting the sun is what makes the Earth spin."

"Yeah. Of course." Tom simply rolls his eyes and holds up the DVD case. "Breakfast at Tiffany's, then?"

Lexi raises an eyebrow at the cover. "Didn't you once tell me that this film was the...What did you say? Ah, yes. "The scum of Earth and should be banned for all time"."

"Pfft, I didn't say that!" A beat of silence. "Okay, fine, maybe I did. But, well, it's a romance, isn't it?"

"So?"

"Well, the only other things they had in Tesco were zombie movies, and I didn't think you'd want to watch that."

He's right. Lexi really doesn't fancy the idea of two hours of human corpses that came back from the dead. "I suppose so."

"Great."

To be fair, he does try to look interested and engaged as the film starts, clasping their fingers together as they watch - Lexi is finding the initial first few minutes quite amusing. Most human behaviour seems to amuse her. But, it doesn't last; before long, there's a sudden weight on her shoulder, distracting her from the cheery music on screen. She glances to her left to see what it is. Tom has already dropped off to sleep, face buried in the crook of her neck, one arm draped around her waist, the other resting between them as their fingers remain interlinked.

Reaching for the television rectangle (remote, or something, Tom calls it) on the coffee table, Lexi mutes the sound of the film, letting the sudden silence fill the room as she leans behind her for the blanket resting on the three-bar heater and pulls it over them. Tom lets out a sigh of content, snuggling closer to her; Lexi gently places a soft kiss on the crown of his head, trying not to smile at the sight.

Maybe these...movie nights do have some kind of purpose.

Tom and Lexi cuddling makes the world go round! (Well, my world, anyway.) :)
