A/N: This idea came to me whilst I was listening to this song, so I went ahead and wrote it. I really hope you like it.
"Rose, I'm so sorry," he whispered, sounding completely tortured. "I can't be with you if my father doesn't approve. You have no idea how difficult he could make things for us."
I stared at his warm, grey eyes, a tear running down my face as I silently said goodbye, trying to console myself with the thought that it would never have worked anyway. Slytherins and Gryffindors just couldn't mix. It hadn't worked for my Uncle Harry's mum and it hadn't worked for me. In another life though, I could have been his girl.
I would always wish that I could have made him stay. All I could say was that he was the one that got away even though I never wanted to have to say that I was losing him. All of his promises were broken now, torn apart by our parents. Our families hated each other; they were on opposite sides of the war. It would never again be us against the world, talking about our future on the roof beside the astronomy tower.
But I'd always have the dream of us together. The dream of him saying to me over and over again that I was his muse as he wrote another song for his band. The dream of being backstage at his concerts instead of in the audience.
When I missed him, I'd always be able to remember the good times. Like Halloween in our first year when he almost wet himself at the fake bat that fluttered into his face. Or being Potions partners. I'd be able to turn on the radio and listen to one of his songs.
But no-one would ever take his place. I'd never marry anyone else, and a million rings couldn't replace him.
I wished I could tell him exactly how much he meant to me, as though that might make him stand up to his father, but I knew it was useless. Instead, I merely said, "In another life, Scorpius," and walked away.
A year later it was exactly the same. I met him once more in Diagon Alley, coming out of the back door of the Leaky Cauldron, surrounded by his bandmates and friends.
"Rose," he said, surprised.
"Hey Scorpius."
"Still dreaming of that other life?"
His eyes searched mine while I took my time answering. "Yeah," I sighed, relishing the feel of his gaze, the love in his beautiful, grey eyes.
He sent his friends on and, as the wall knitted itself back together, he walked towards me, pushing me towards it. I stopped when my back hit the bricks and I had nowhere else to go. His lips took mine passionately and his tongue slipped into my mouth, remembering its way. My hands came up to his face to pull him closer whilst his slid down my back, resting around my waist. Finally he drew away and rested his head against mine.
"I missed you," he murmured, staring once more into my blue eyes.
"Can we be together now, Scorpius?"
He was silent, telling me everything.
"You were the one that got away, Scor," I whispered, finally able to say it.
