A/N : Happy Birthday RON! He's 33 now, they grow up so fast.. :') Here's a short drabble dedicated to our favourite ginger..!

The Birthday Monster

Ronald Weasley lay sniffling in between his blankets.

It was his fifth birthday tomorrow and he couldn't sleep.

He was scared of the birthday monster.

His older brothers, Fred and George had told him about this monster.

"It has big hairy arms and a long nose, and you have to - to, er, feed it cookies to stop it.. yeah, and also," eight-year-old Fred had paused here, eyes wide, "he might come tonight because, five's a grand old age.."

"Yes, indeed," Fred's twin George, had begun, "In fact, don't you remember when he came to our fifth birthday, Freddie?"

"Yes, indeed," chorused Fred, with an air of great danger, "You better watch out for yourself Ronnie-kins."

Ron had been so scared, he even forgot to remind Fred not to use that nickname.

And now, the soon-to-be five-year-old was waiting, eyes wide, shivering in his bed.

The ghoul dropped a pipe and groaned. Ron jumped.

This was not working.

Ron slid out of his blankets, and tiptoed up to his parent's door. He knocked on the door.

Molly Weasley opened the door looking extremely tired and angry. At the sight of her youngest son, though, her expression softened.

"What is it honey? What's troubling you, birthday boy?"

"Mum, the birthday monster, it'll come and eat my presents and I won't have any," he burst out, sobbing.

"Birthday Monster? What birthday monster? What are you talking about, honey? Come in now, Ronnie and explain."

"What happened, Molly dear?" asked Arthur Weasley, concerned.

"Nothing, Arthur, I think Ronnie's had a nightmare. He's talking about some sort of monster.. I dunno what happened to him," Molly turned to Ron, "What happened honey?"

"Fred and George, they told me about the birthday monster and how he has big hairy -"

"That's quite enough dear, I know what's happened now," said Molly Weasley, crossly, "Birthday monster, ha! It's okay, Ronnie," she added softly, at the sight of Ron who was sniffing, "there's no birthday monster, your brothers just made that up. How very wrong of them to trick you! I'll go right now to give them a piece of my mind," she fumed.

Ron was ashamed of himself. He couldn't believe that he had been so easily tricked and frightened. He was five years old! He shouldn't have been so gullible.

"Hush, Molly, I've a better idea," began Arthur Weasley, rubbing his hands together, " come here, Ron, and Molly, you better come too. The plan I have is..."

10 minutes later, Ronald Weasley's eyes were wide with shock and excitement. Molly was disapproving but Arthur managed to convince her.

Arthur pulled out his wand and Ron eyed it, eyes wider. He'd always wanted a wand, but he knew you'd get one only when you got to go to Hogwarts like Bill and Charlie. Even Fred and George didn't have one.

His father had meanwhile, magicked his face a violent shade of purple and taken his glasses off. He had also made his teeth go sharp and pointy, and his eyes blood-red. Even Ron couldn't recognise him. Molly was laughing, though Ron didn't know why. His father looked terrifying.

Arthur grabbed a blanket and wrapped it around him. He made his way to the twins' room. Arthur opened the door slowly, watching the twins' sleep peacefully.

Not for long...
