There's an old saying that power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.
Charlotte could be considered living proof of that adage. Now she sat in her room alone, drawing pictures that no one would see. Her loneliness was only a productive of her actions.
She was an envious person. She envied the trio's close friendship. Lewis was always with them, always prioritizing them above her even when they were dating. Even though Lewis was her boyfriend, she couldn't help but wonder if she was a rebound. Well, she would have set herself up for that scenario. Expected it even. If it was the case, she planned to show Lewis she was worth more than a rebound and better than the stupid ex that dumped him.
Cleo. The name didn't bring the same hatred it used to. She was reluctant to admit it, but the two of them were a good match.
snap
The pencil tip broke. She didn't hate Cleo, but she still envied her. She grabbed another pencil and blew the broken graphite off the paper.
She wondered what they would be doing. Probably swimming. She only had her tail for a bit before she lost it, but she can certainly say that swimming was the most ethereal feeling.
She let her emotions cloud her judgment: first envy then superiority. When she got her tail, she finally understood why they were so secretive. She though she would fit in with them after that.
When she learned about the powers that's when her ego became the problem. She had the powers of all three of them; hence, she was stronger than them. She was better than them, especially Cleo. She had a tail, the powers, and his attention. But she always had trouble keeping the last one. She could never understand why. After all, she was better than Cleo. She thought she was better than all of them.
That was where she went wrong, seeing Cleo as a threat, which she was, that she had to get rid of. Thinking back on everything, trying to one-up and undermine Cleo wasn't the best way get Lewis to care for her. It pushed him away, which intern made Charlotte even angrier and vengeful.
She was her own worst enemy. Her conceit, anger, and envy cost her Lewis, her tail, her powers, and the chance of friendship. She looked down at the piece of paper. Grey streaks were drawn haphazardly all over the paper. It could be consider something done by a toddler.
She sighed as she crumpled the piece of paper up. No amount of erasing could fix the damage done.
