Embers

He looked down upon the burning body of his Padawan. Anakin's horse voice ripped through the molten air with words that would strike any man down. But with his last breath, the once beautiful man looked up. His hair gone, his skin brunt and mutilated, flames scorching his human features away, his eyes blazing with the same fire consuming his body. All traces of blue and who he was before gone. Only hatred, venom, and malice intent were shone through those orbs. Directed straight at himself, at the young mans Master, Friend…Lover.

"I HATE YOU!"

It stuck deeper then any blade could wedge itself into his heart. Their love gone, their happiness gone, their lives gone, those three words unraveled everything.

He had known that once Anakin had gone to the darkside and slaughtered all those younglings there was no going back. But he had hoped… he had hoped that it wouldn't have had to come to this. To him striking down the person he cared about most, then leaving him on the edge of river of fire to suffer an unbearable pain. A pain he could not do with his own hands, so he let the river consume Anakin's hatred, consume his body, consume the evil within him… and all he could say was,

"I loved you. You were my lover, Anakin!" He took a shaky step back, and then another. He wanted to block out the painful screams escaping from his Anakin… no, not his Anakin. Anakin would never have turned to the darkside. Something else possessed him now. Something dark and evil.

Turning away, he let the tears fall now. They fell down his cheeks until the heat of the planet stole them into the air, making them as if they never existed. Moving away, he made his way up the rocky slope. Then a flash of silver caught his eye.

Anakin's lightsabre. The pivotal of who his love, his friend, his everything was. Bending down, he picked the hot metal cylinder up and looked down at it fondly. It was the courage of Anakin, his bravery, his passion and love to do what he believed was right.

It was, and forever would be, a symbol of the time they had shared.

Another agonizing cry had him moving quickly over the rocky terrain and away from the screams, and the pain. He marched to where he knew Padame to be, where her and Anakin's children were.

He held no hatred towards the pregnant woman being Anakin's first lover. He would love the children of Anakin, but it was time to flee. Time to flee, and forget the past he shared with a man that no longer existed. Anakin had died the day the dark had consumed his caring heart. And so did he himself.

He would keep a watchful and protective eye upon his lover's children. It would be his last duty towards the man that had held his heart. Anakin would have appreciated it, would have smiled at him with that disarming charm he had, then he would have kissed him.

No, no. It was time to forget, to flee. It was time to go into hiding and let his heart freeze over. It was time to do his one purpose in life from now on. Save and protect the children.

Then it would be time to die.
