Dean hated the darkness. He wasn't exactly scared of it, but he knew what was hidden in the depths of the shadows, what lurked beyond the light of day. And he hated all that was hidden within it -- and the darkness because it was so good at hiding things. But no, he wasn't scared. Not anymore, anyways. Dad always said a good hunter wasn't scared of anything -- if you were scared of the dark, then how could you hunt at night?

Sam had been afraid of the dark, up until he was ten years old, and after that – after being set straight – he had outgrown the fear. He still kinda feared the things that hid in the dark, but he had a big brother who would kill whatever was hidden, who would protect him. So as long as Dean was around, Sam really had no more reasons to be afraid of the dark.

Dean still hated it, though. But he would do whatever it took to protect his little brother, and if that meant facing what he hated, then he would do it easily and willingly without being told twice.
