Imperfections

Remus Lupin is unaware when and how it happens, but one day he wakes up and he just knows. He's in love. He's been in love before, but it has never been a love so strong and deep and whole as the love he feels for her. She stands before him, that cheeky smile he adores on her face and that glimmer in her eyes. He smiles at her warmly and pushes a strand of her hair behind her ear, bringing his face closer to hers.

Their faces are only centimetres apart and he can feel her warm breaths on his skin, and he can smell the peppermint. All he can think about is how beautiful she is.

She reaches up, standing on her tip-toes, and wraps her arms around his neck, pulling him closer to her. Her smile widens.

"You look even more handsome up close," she whispers, her eyes roaming all over his face, making him smile even more.

He cannot for the life of him understand why on Earth she would love him. She deserves much better, and he's told her this, but here she stands – loving him like nobody's ever loved anyone else.

She traces her index finger over the scar on his face. He flinches a little but stays still, watching in fascination as she touches the thing he despises the most with no fear or disgust on her face.

"Don't," he mumbles, and she shakes her head. Her purple hair swishes to the side and he wants to kiss her more than anything, but her hand remains on the scar.

"I love you, Remus," she says. "Everything about you. I love your imperfections-" she leans in and kisses his scar, and then his lips. "-Your imperfections make you you, and that's the most amazing thing in the whole world."

He can feel his heart thumping in his chest. He grabs her by the waist and lifts her, spinning her around and kissing her softly on the lips as he lowers her down again.

Reaching for her hand, he stares into her eyes. "I love you, Tonks. You're my soulmate."

And it is in that moment that he decides that this perfect woman will be his wife. He can't help but smile at that.
