"Green?"
The gym leader spun around on his heel dramatically, already knowing who the voice belonged to and knowing that without dramatics, she would pester him about being grumpy. Sure enough, behind him stood Lyra, with her normal pigtails, overalls, and fluffy hat that Green still didn't understand fully. She had her toes pointed together and hands clasped together by her front. Her big brown eyes shined in the sunlight that spilled in from the window, giving her an even more adorable look than normal.
"What do you need, Lyra? I'm kind of busy," Green asked. He spun back around and picked up the paperwork he had to do that evening. It would be difficult enough to do with Red at home, the last thing he needed was a pesky Johto kid prolonging his homecoming.
Lyra beamed brightly at him, flashing her teeth in her big smile. "I'm glad you asked!"
Green groaned, knowing he'd just set himself up for another half hour at the gym. "Well?"
Lyra tossed her arms up in the air and started to grip childishly at Green. "Hug?" she asked in a pathetic tone.
"What?" Green asked dumbfounded. Lyra bounced on her toes and leaned forward, repeating again her request. "A-absolutely not!" Green shouted, cursing inwardly his stutter. Lyra fell back onto her feet flat, crossing her arms cutely and letting her bottom lip protrude.
"Why not?" she asked through her teeth.
"Why should I?" Green retorted. He had to step back against his desk as Lyra stepped forward. "Actually, why do you want a hug so bad?"
"Can't I want a hug from my favorite gym leader?" Lyra snatched his hand and hugged his arm, jumping in place.
"Not happening, shorty," Green pulled his arm away from her. "Go find somebody else, I have to get home and do this crap," he gestured to the papers in his arms. Green stepped out from Lyra's side and started to head toward the door. Suddenly, he heard gasps for air. When he spun around, he saw huge tears pooling in the corners of Lyra's eyes as well as the heaves of her chest as she struggled to breath. Snot started to escape her nostrils and drip to her quivering lips, so she weekly wiped at her face with both fists. "Nononono!"
Green dashed back over to her, tossing the papers down on a chair. He picked her up from under her armpits and sat the girl on his desk. "Stop crying, stop crying!" he said desperately. Green wiped at her eyes with his thumbs and tried to speak soothingly. The last thing he needed was for one of his employees to hear crying from his office. Those shits would probably leak that to the papers and his reputation would be ruined.
Not to mention he just really didn't like for someone so cute to cry so much.
"I-I," Lyra sucked in a breath, "I j-just wanted a h-hug!" she wailed, gripping Green's arms and leaning her head on his chest.
"OK, OK!" Green moved his arms around the girl's waist and squeezed, hugging her close. Lyra wrapped her arms around his neck and buried her nose in his neck. Cold snot left a mark on Green's neck, but it wasn't like he cared as long as Lyra stopped crying. He pulled away after a few moments, awkwardly looking down at her. "There? Better, now?"
"Thanks, Green!" Lyra giggled, hopping off his desk. She skipped out the door and picked up Green's eevee as she headed out the door.
"What is wrong with her?" Green snickered, shaking his head as he picked up his papers. At least he could go home now and – wait. "Hey, get back here with Eevee!" Green shouted, running out after Lyra.
I quite like writing manipulative Lyra.
