Hello again! This is my second Kuroh x Neko fic :)
The tone of this story is almost the same as the last one. Hope you enjoy!
Forgive me for those wrong grammar down there, writing english isn't really my forte.
Loyalty
"Shiro."
That's the 2nd time she uttered his name while sleeping.
Life still continued for the two strains of the Silver clan. After all, their king wouldn't want them sulking for his disappearance. He sacrificed himself so everyone can live peacefully without the Colorless king's existence.
Kuroh knows Shiro will come back though. He's the immortal king. And as clansmen, they will continue to look for him, because clansmen are loyal to their king.
Loyal. He seems to dwell on that word lately.
Kuroh felt Neko shift and shiver. He pulled her closer.
"Thank you Shiro." There it is again. It's the 3rd time tonight.
"Shhh... Go to sleep." He whispered and lightly patted her head.
"Hai... Shiro." 4th, he continued counting.
He watched her sleep - watch her chest rise and fall, play with her hair, caress her face, trace her jaw line, listen to her quiet breathing, and count how many times she utter 'Shiro' in her sleep. It has been a 'thing' for him for the last couple of weeks.
Loyalty, It nudged in his mind again.
It's loyalty that gives him the drive to fight for Shiro. Sacrifice his life, cook his favorite meals every day, protect everything that's precious to Shiro, hell, he would even kill himself if needed.
It is loyalty that gives him and Neko the drive to travel the ends of the earth just to look for him. He knows their king will look for them as well - they'll just have to meet halfway. To end their search right away and be the trio that they used to be.
Though lately, somehow, he doesn't want to end the search just yet.
He would be lying if he doesn't know why. He would be lying if he says the reason isn't the girl sleeping beside him.
As they put their lives on the line to find their king - facing other clans, strain smugglers, and some random bad guy on the street, this cat girl seemed to found her way into his heart. He didn't know how. One day, they're in each other's nerves and the next time, he can't even argue with her once he looks at her in the eye.
Clansmen are loyal to their king and he is no exception.
This time, he finds his loyalty in question.
He feels that he's trying to take away something from Shiro and even, to a little degree, stop looking for him and spend a little time - with her, even for just a little bit.
Once they planned the path he and Neko are heading to, they wasted no time. Going from city to city, asking every person they meet on the way of any leads to where their king might be, time didn't stop for them so they just kept on going. Wasted no time searching for him.
But now, instead of stopping for a place to rest just for the night in each city they go to, he will always consider to stay there for another day - just to look around each city, sometimes even joining in festivals and such - with her.
"Why are we going to this festival Kurosuke? Shouldn't we be heading to our next destination?" She asked.
"It's been a long time since we done something like this, ne?" He answered.
She looked at her kimono and around the place and smiled, "I guess so."
"And who knows, maybe he's here Neko."
He saw her eyes glimmer with hope and excitement.
He felt his chest tighten.
He knows that she will forever be devoted to Shiro, and same goes for Shiro to Neko. She will always be his.
He knows he's being selfish and not to mention head over heels pathetic, but it's better to be those two things in just this moment.
Because when they finally find Shiro, it'll be back to normal - he can't watch her sleep, be with her every minute, and hold her hand in this way again.
Only Shiro can do that.
