"She's always flirting with the castle guards!"
Why did it bother him so much? Yes she did always flirt with them. Almost every day as a matter of fact. But it wasn't as if there was a law against it or anything. She had every right to do whatever the heck she pleased.
He told himself that it was because he didn't want the guards distracted. They had a job to do after all. And her constant flirting could only be an annoyance to them, distracting from the work they had to do.
Who did she think she was anyway? She should have known perfectly well that the guards had better things to do. And it wasn't like this was her castle. She was a guest here and should really be extra considerate. What was wrong with her?
And, ok he does like her a little. Because, please, she isn't terrible. She is the only girl that has ever matched his wits and had something going on in her brain other than what color dress best compliments her hair. Yeah, he just wants her to not flirt with the guards because he wants to try beating her at cards.
Bromley said he was jealous. Jealous! Yeah, right. Jealous of what? That that small, skinny, blonde was paying attention to someone else? Why would he care? He doesn't care. How on earth could he be jealous?
Sure, he has to admit she isn't horribly disfigured. He could even see how some men might find her mildly attractive. She is kind, and a little pretty, with wits and a sense of humor to match. But he is NOT jealous.
At least, that's what he tells himself.
