Who I Am Not

When Mrs. Lovett hears the screams, sees the bodies, touches the blood, it makes her feel sick. She doesn't want all these innocent people to have to die just to satisfy Mr. Todd and to feed her customers.

So she pretends none of it is happening. Mr. Todd is simply shaving people, and she's simply making her pies. Nothing wrong with that.

She is not a murderer.

Sometimes she even imagines that Mr. Todd isn't Mr. Todd, but still Benjamin Barker. Benjamin Barker would never kill innocent people. And she, Nellie Lovett, would never bake them into pies. No, both of them are good citizens who would never do anything like that.

She is not a murderer.

She forces these thoughts into herself at all times. They are the truth.

She is not a murderer.

But pretending doesn't stop the screams, the bodies, and the blood from haunting her dreams.

She is not a murderer.

At least, she wishes she wasn't.
